where can some on tell me where I can buy a bulk piece of screen like what is used in the sediment bowls. thanks

I'm not sure want kind of tractor you are talking about but if you click on the parts section on this site they have them at a reasonable cost.
 

Pinball, When you get it done post back. I can't imagine that cutting that material to fit is going to work well.
 
My sediment bowl started leaking om my 340. the screen and gasket needed to be replaced. local place had a plastic screen for 8.50, gasket for 2.00. I also wanted to put a screen on the inlet couple inches long, just thought if I could by a 12 inch screen I could make my own. I have a new bowl on the way to put on the 340. just trying to fix this one for a spare. give me something to do I guess. thanks norm
 
I use these on the inlet, work great! You may have to drill the hole out to fit. I add a little sleeve retainer, for insurance.

You can't find this type of screen ? There are only several different sizes and easy to find and price is not bad. You can also clean them and reuse them with a new gasket.

NAPA # 730-2373 is for an 1 3/4" screen. That's the number on the box of 10, the way I bought them. Fits my old Cases from the 40s/50s
 
I buy the gaskets and screens form Orscheln's or O'Reilly's both almost always have them on hand. Gasket is called a fuel strainer gasket part #398 at O'Reilly's
