John Deere 950 tachometer

I am new to Yesterdays tractor. Perhaps this question has already been asked.
I have a John deere 950 and am in need of a tachometer.
the price for a new one is really high so I wonder about some options. The correct tach. is a CH20169. Would a tach. AM102043 be accurate if installed? If not, I wonder what the difference in the reading would be? ie, if one read a certain number, could you add or subtract a number to the less expensive one so I could use it? I know the cable will work.

What is a push pull cable? I have the cable for the AM102034. I attached it to the tractor and the AM102034 tachometer. When I started the tractor the needle moved but seemed to show a higher RPM than what the tractor was actually running.
I'm just trying to keep from spending the $400 for the correct unit. I appreciate any input.

Perhaps the OP is referring to the AM 102034 tachometer that was used in the John Deere 955 tractor?

I have no idea of what drives the tachometer for either the 950 or 955 tractors. If the OP is just interested in RPM's, I guessing that one of the cheap generic diesel tachometers would work.

The number in the 1st post.
