Been ten years as of Jan. 26 that I've had my Roosty6 youtube channel. 382 videos and I don't know how many hours. Lots of rusty old iron and
farming stuff. Its been fun and met a lot of interesting people through the channel. Learned a lot too. I have not quite run out of material
yet.

rusty I have watched a lot of the video's you've posted and let me say thank you for all the video's you've posted and thank you for keeping them real. I find a lot of the utube posters are what I call drama queens, but you have kept yours real. thanks again rusty and I look forward to more ride alongs with you out haying or feeding cattle and I look forward to the next 20 years watching your videos. john

I don't know much about youtube, but I notice you have "followers", but I see others have "subscribers"- is the difference whether you get paid for clicks or not?

I enjoy watching yours, partly because I like to hear a Canadian accent once in awhile ;>) Have been to Saskatchewan only often enough to learn how to spell it. I do remember at the World's Fair in Vancouver BC about 30 years ago that your province had far and away the best movie promoting your province in your pavilion- a real warm and fuzzy thing with lots of great scenery narrated by a young girl, IIRC. Are you aware of it, and is there any way to watch it again?

I had subscribed at one point, but at some point it seems that subscription disappeared. Happened around the time of a Firefox update that messed things up and I had to fix the mess, but can't understand how that could possibly be an issue. Anyway, thanks for posting - back on the subscriber rolls! :D

I really don't know the difference between followers and subscribers. I recently passed the 1000 subscriber mark so I qualify if I want to monetize my channel. Still undecided on that.
I don't know of the video you mention from the World's fair at Vancouver. Likely Expo 86 was the occasion.

I don't know anything about it , but I think some make so much money they can quit their regular job ?

I've heard/seen some rants from other youtubers about the changing policy this month. If you don't have a minimum of 1000 subscribers and a certain number of hours viewing, then youtube will not pay anything. I guess that is their way of getting better quality video content. So far I'm just doing it for fun.

Rusty... I can enlighten you a little. I, too have a channel (listed below)... And have gotten the same e-mail that many others have gotten lately. If I do not have 1000 subscribers, and a minimum of 4000 hours of watch time per year, I will no longer be able to be a YouTube partner... What does that mean for me? I won't be getting a $100 check every few months.. It ain't much, but it is something. As I am sure you can appreciate, a lot of effort goes into making these videos. So a little check once in a while doesn't hurt. At least I can buy a new tool or something when I break one.

As far as becoming a YouTube Partner. You receive I think it is 1/8 of a cent per click, or something to that effect. YouTube (effectively Google), then sends you a check after your revenue has hit a minimum of $100. On my channel, it typically takes me 3-4 months to get $100 or so.. But, I am not in it for the money. I am in it to share the tractor hobby and connect with others around the world! I am also amazed at which videos get the most views. Most of my tractor videos rarely get above 2000 views.. But a couple other videos I have (motorcycle and truck related) have gotten well over 100k views. My channel as a whole has generated nearly 600k views in my 8-10 years on YouTube. Pretty amazing. What I also find interesting is you can see where in the world your videos are being watched! Denmark, South America, Australia, etc. THAT is COOL to me.

It's a pretty simple process to be come a Partner. Essentially, Google then places ads on your videos - they use your channel as a billboard.

I have watched quite a few of your videos as well. The swathing 1988 video was interesting because that was quite a severe drought year in western Canada and was curious to see what kind of crop you had that year. Also it is interesting to see what kind of equipment was in use back then.

Yeah I think with around 100k subscribers and steady posting you can make around $4000 a month. Maybe Lance will tell us what he makes?? I guess you can get in trouble discussing the business side....for me, it would get old real quick filming and editing on a daily basis, which is what it takes to make the big bucks....that and good content.

Thanks for that insight into the monetization thing Ken. I wondered if the ads might drive viewers away. I guess there is one way to find out. Like you, I'm in it mostly for fun but a little extra money would be ok too.

I guess for $4000 a month for videos I'd retire from farming too :) But then I"d have nothing much to shoot videos of.
I'm probably in danger of "jumping the shark" with all these old rusty Mercury videos but its what I'm into right now and am doing it mostly for my own use anyway.
Currently uploading something a little different to the channel from last summer.

I don't even know how to get on youtube to watch the video unless it is a direct ling to click on from the poster. And then cannot always do it. And very few ever mentioned interest me enough to try to get on. Any post with something in header that sounds interesting to me if I open post and it goes to a video I just back out never to try it again.

True, there is a lot of stuff on there that is basically a waste of time and electrons. But there is also some pure gold information and entertainment. Its become an addiction with me. Seems like almost anything I've broken and tried to repair, someone else has already done it and put a video of it on youtube. I've learned a lot there. The best ones I will just click the subscribe button so I get an alert whenever they post a new video.

Congratulations!Your videos are enjoyable. They relate to your everyday activities around the farm and how everyday is different.

Thanks GVSII. I'm glad people find something of interest in these videos sometimes. I think this winter day is a good one to look back on the
hot days of July. I think I shot this one about the last day of July on a hot morning. Out walking along the oat field with the dogs. They
sure enjoy the walks.
