Tractor hauler oil pressure

On my tractor hauler which is a 2001 Chevy
2500hd with the 6.6 duramax a couple times
when I've started after it sat for a day it
would take about 10 sec for the oil
pressure gauge came and the check oil
pressure light would come on just before
the gauge came up. I figured just since
it had sat for a day and it had been in the
20s both times it's normal but I just
wanted a couple opinions that if was the
case or if there's something I need to
check because I don't have trouble any
other time besides them 2 times

I'd experiment with different brands of oil filters ?

My Dodge gas would take awhile longer to build oil pressure with most every filter I tried but a Fram. Fram to most hated filter on YT ! lol.

I had that same problem with a Mustang car when using Fram filters, switched to Motorcraft and it stopped doing it. I liked Fram when they started putting the non-skid coating on them, but they must have a bad check valve.

I've never had an issue of any kind with Fram filters, and in the past that is all I used. I now take the truck to the dealer for oil changes and I'm happy with whatever they install.

20=25 yrs ago my BIL had the same problem with a Ford 352. Rattled like crazy until the filter filled. Changed to Ford filters and it stopped. I think it had to do with the anti=drainback valve leaking and the FE had a long pickup passage.

I also had that with a little Buick aluminum V8. The oil pump was in the timing cover and the pickup screen was way back in the back of the oil pan. Had to have a goo anti-drainback.

That engine in those early production was notorious for
Pre mature oil pump wear/failure.
It's Aluminum pump in the timing cover,
Go figure

I'll tell you from experience, go with GM filters on the Duramaxs. The Duramax is made by Isuzu, and a LOT of off brand filters, are not up to their standards.

I have the same kind of issues with mine, which is the same as yours, 2001 6.6 LB7. I run only GM oil filters, and Caterpillar diesel filters (best move ever!)

After rebuilding the engine, on a 5 degree morning, I threw a code for "high oil pressure warning". Pegged the gauge. . . THATS how it should be on a cold start!

Thanks everyone I'll try changing the filter brand I'm not sure what's on it currently but will try and get a gm one
