4 pins-5 wire light plug

I just bought a 4 pin flat wiring plug and 25" of wire for a trailer I'm refurbishing. I didn't notice until it came that it has 5 wires. The yellow, green, and white are correct and where they need to be but the brown wire pin also a red wire in attendance. I assume the red one is accessorial but, is there any reason I can't just send the brown wire to one side and the red one to the other as running/tail lights? Thanks, gm

What you said sounds fine to me as the dual wire terminal can serve as Tail/Marker on Both or Either sides.

My method and how I remembered it was always. gReen Right
yeLLow Left
White Ground
Brown Tail/Marker
and the Ground was the covered pin.

John T, you are right. Have dealt with flat 4 and 5 on U-Haul trailers for 20 years. Customers always ripping them off.

Yellow for the yellow line side, green for green grass side and brown for behind is how I was taught. Lol
