Fencing Costs

For those that fence for others or have had fencing done,how much per ft do fence builders get? Just the labor part not the fencing materials cost?

In our area they want 1.00 per foot labor for 5 strand barb-wire, I assume 6 strand would be more and maybe net wire about the same but I have never called. I built a lot of new fence when calves were sky high both to offset taxes and because I am getting ready to retire and be home, I hired by the hour because I could control the job that way, if I wanted a staple in every square of net wire that's what I got, I did not think it was that expensive when I was finished.

Depends on job. More ft gets a little better price. But on 1000 ft we charge 1.50 ft for 4 strand barb wire. Wood corners ( H braced) T post ,with wood every 100-150 ft. 4 rail wood fence 2.00 ft. Add woven wire .50 cents more per foot. Price subject to change due to terrain and ability to get a tractor in there. Also customer attitude.........lol

My neighbor just had a 6 strand 12.5 ga barbwire fence built with pipe corners for $2.65 per ft(labor & materials). No brush clearing was required.

I can hire 5 strand barb for $1.90 a foot labor and materials. Every other post wooden and wood corners with metal corner bracing.

Not to hijack the OP's thread but I think it's relavent here. How much do you guys think it would cost per acre to build your own fence assuming you had post pounder and auger for the materials? Looking at fencing in 40 acres and a $10,000ish price tag about made me pass out.

40 acres has a perimeter of one mile, 5280 feet, posts and wire, whether it be net wire, 5 strands
of barb or whatever will come to approximately $5000 most anywhere in the country, so your $10,000
quote which is essentially labor = materials is about par for the course.

What is the shape of your forty acres, and how much fence is required? A square shaped 40 acres would be 1/4 mile square, 1/4 mile X 4 sides = 1 mile (5280 feet) of fence. Add a few gates, hills, and stream crossings and the cost can add up.
