My YouTube Tractor Channel

Hello everyone.. I know I should probably not post this, and it is probably not allowed (I fully expect it to be deleted)... But I just received notice from YouTube that my channel will be removed from having monetization capabilites. I focus largely on antique tractors, wrenching, rebuilds, common problems, threshing show tours, etc... Just the hobby in general. I maybe get a check every 3-4 months for $100, and that really is very miniscule - it pays for MAYBE a new tool a couple times per year (which is nice to have since I just got my first air impact at the age of 31!). If you all could help me out simply by subscribing, sharing, and liking the channel, I may have a chance to keep the benefit of receiving a couple hundred dollars a year for my efforts to share the hobby with everyone. They state that I now need a minimum of 1000 subscribers, and 4000 hours of viewer watch time in a matter of 12 months (I've got 30 days to fulfill the requirements I think). The link for my channel is below, and I appreciate any help that you all give me! Many of you have seen my videos, and I appreciate everyone who watches! Regardless, I will keep filming while wrenching, but sometimes it is nice to get a little bonus check. Happy wrenching!

Kens Tractor Channel

I've watched a few of your videos Ken and read many of your posts. I enjoyed them. If I can figure out how to do the subscriber thing then count me in.

Thanks buddy! I appreciate everyone's support. Glad people are reading my posts too. I don't know even a fraction of everything, but everything I have learned I attribute to everyone on these forums! I have been coming here since I was about 12 years old in 1998/1999... Now being 31, I guess you could say I am 'grandfathered in'? I'm not always posting, but I always check in EVERY DAY here. So much good conversation, so much to learn... I have literally grown up on the forums.

In order to subscribe, you have to create an account on YouTube - free, and then go to my channel... Click on subscribe (then of course share it if you have social media)! :-D

Nice enjoyable videos. Have checked out couple of your videos before, but couldn't remember your channel. Thanks for the reminder, added one more for ya. Scott

Ken, I think you handled that situation superbly. Wife and I both feel the same way nearly every time we go to town in the winter.

Now, how can we get the Star Trib to pick up that story and run with it?

You're welcome, Mark! I got the chance this year to drive that 1/2 scale 65HP Case, and learn about how these engines work... Also drove the Avery that was rescued from the nnalert River (link below). I managed to have a friend snap a photo while I was on the back, and also took some video of the drive if you would like to see it... It was a great year this year for me when it comes to new experiences at the show!

Thanks Scott! Glad you enjoy! Here is a video of Day Two at the show... Driving the Avery (since we are talking about STEAM)... Go to about 33:25 and that is where the steaming starts... Lots of other fun stuff in the Nowthen videos I took, though! Get your popcorn out!

Hi I subbed but from what I have heard about youtube and paying they are using anything they can as an excuse to not pay anybody and keep the money themselves. Lots of guys are waiting for something else to come along and youtube will be done. It's a shame there is a lot of great info out there for a lot of different things. "If you are smart enough" to figure out who's telling the truth about certain things or what they work on .

I really think you won't be better off just like all the others that are quitting posting video's or moving to other sources of income for video's with Patreon and paypal. Good luck hopefully you get somewhere with your channel, but don't be disapointed if youtube scupper you at every turn with something else.
Regards Robert

Descended straight out of Oslo, Norway, from a Viking family.... No other way I would rather have it (SKOL)! I'll keep the videos coming as long as people enjoy watching. Doesn't matter what happens with the monetization - obviously I am not into making videos (or tractors) for the money! Thanks for staying tuned.

Many keep talking about the Patreon thing... I guess I will have to check it out. I'll keep posting videos on YouTube because right now that is what I am familiar with... I don't do it for the money, but like I said.. Sometimes it is a nice surprise to get a $100 boost a couple times per year just for doing the videos. For me, it is a fun way to connect with others, educate, learn, and promote the hobby. I guess I don't blame them - that is the nature of big business.

Thanks for staying tuned! I'll keep them coming!

I'll check out your channel as I'd never heard of it (or you) before. But I don't read here as regular as I should. INteresting to hear how much (or little) the monetization pays. I'd been offered to monetize my video channel quite a while back but never got around to signing up for it. I really can't tell you what brings in the "likes" or subscriptions. I"ve got some that have broke the quarter million view mark and I still don't know why as I didnt think I had anything special there.
I started posting videos mostly for fun and to preserve memories for myself and the family. Now its become an addiction I think. I've heard a few other guys complain lately about youtube cutting back so its not just you.

Ken I just subscribed. I checked the chanel out and its now on my list of youtube favorits. iam going out to the shop to work for the rest of today but iam going to start your play list and let it run for the rest of today! that will help git your run time up. keep up the good work and maby ill see you at the lesure swap meet this spring. Bob

Thanks, and yes it is! Mark and Linda do a fantastic job on that calendar every year. I am ecstatic to have been selected twice to be a part of it! Thanks for checking it out!

Bob,

Thanks for checking it out - and thanks for 'letting it run', Lol. Hopefully you get a kick out of some of it. Much of it is slow paced video of rebuilding the tractors I have, troubleshooting, etc. There are some other videos - motorcycles and some stuff from when I was a younger guy in my early 20's.. But the last few years I have focused largely on tractors.

Not sure if I will make it to Le Seuer - I am supposed to work that weekend. And with us putting the house on the market, everything is up in the air right now as far as what our schedules will be like.

Thanks again, and if I can make it down there I will!

I have been coming to the forums since I was about 12 or 13... Back in 1998/99. I used to go by FarmallCaseKid back then, but have since decided to just keep it simple. I generally bounce around between Tractor Talk, Case, Farmall, and John Deere. I am always reading on a daily basis, but only post on others topics when I feel I have something to contribute that another hasn't already said. I'll start my own topics on occasion, but for the most part I'm a reader and I enjoy the knowledge I have gained over the 20 years I have been a 'member'.

YouTube? Well, I guess it is just big business doing what they do. They don't need the small guys for advertisement because they don't generate enough revenue to really make a difference I suppose. I don't do it for the money (obviously), and as you said.. It can become an addiction. I do have a couple videos with over 100K views, but I am by no means a 'viral sensation'. It's just another tool for me to connect with tractor folk, and also for me to kind of get an online tractor show when I am stuck in the house unable to attend various shows.

I'll keep on posting no matter what... Until it no longer becomes fun I guess. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Thanks for checking it out!

Hi Ken,
I went ahead and subscribed. I'm also a member of the younger crowd at 32. I have also been on the forum on and off for a number of years trying to add something when I can and adsorb everything else. I hope we can get you over the top on what youtube wants.

We will try! Either way, I am going to keep making videos... But if I can get just a little extra for putting forth the time and effort, then great. If not, no worries (it was not anything I depended on as income, that is for sure)! Thanks for checking it out, and subscribing!

Subscribed.

Now I think I'm qualified to critique.

Less face time, more tractor time. Don't feel bad, they all have the same problem. Not that you aren't reul purty,,, an all but I can see people talking about cars, tractors, boats, planes, etc. I would prefer 8-10 seconds of intro, and the balance about the subject at hand.

I understand. I haven't been able to do much wrenching lately, which is why the past few videos have been largely just updates, and a shop tour of Rudy Calin's Magneto shop. Been busy trying to get the house ready for market so we can get to a place where I have an actual SHOP to work on stuff. I have a LOT of projects that I need to do on current tractors, and am planning on heading out tomorrow morning to hunt for a new project.

See, I have this theory... If I have a stable full of nice original tractors, that should give me lots of projects to work on over the course of the next 20 years. It's like building an armory, I guess. :)

Thanks for checking it out and for the input on the channel. I assure you, more wrenching-based videos are coming. It has just been a hectic couple months for us on the home front.

It's amazing how they try to drive out the little guys like us. I know we are covering a very small niche demographic, but these videos are all I have to share with others during the seasons where there aren't threshing shows happening - plus it is a way for us all to share knowledge 'live'... We can teach, learn, share, diagnose, and do all kinds of other things over the net with the use of YouTube. It is a great way to get the younger crowds into the hobby as well. If they can pull it up on YouTube and learn how it is done, they may develop a new fascination with it!

I'm on my way to your channel now to subscribe!

Thank you very much! I hope to be bringing lots of new videos - with the recent trip to southern MN, it sounds like we are bringing back a couple of good projects!

I might, I'm not too sure. I haven't pulled before, and a lot of the reason behind that is because a lot of my tractors have questionable tires on them. Slowly, though, I have been replacing the tires with some good used ones - so you never know!
