Looking at buying a very straight 9000. I know about injector pump lubercation and cavitation--how do I verify these are not issues before I make an offer.
Any other issues I should be aware of?

Well if it has coolant in the oil cavitation is the issue, if it's doesn't then keep the sca up and it won't be. As for the pump lubrication change the oil at every oil change and you will be fine

The 8000 I bought started hard and ran hot. When I drained the oil in the cam box on the pump it seemed like it was pure diesel. Filled it with 15-40, ran it a few minutes, drained it and refilled. Night and day difference. Would the seller let you drain and refill the cam box so you know the condition? Simple job and nothing harmed if you decide to not buy it.

Make sure the brakes arn't worn out. When they go out they take the whole hydraulic system with them.

See if you can find out what the long time first owner had for water supply. If it came from a drilled well in hill country it would be OK if it were a dug well in river bottom land or municipal water from a surface reservoir it would tend towards acidic. Back in the seventies nobody new about SCAs so the acid water made them perforate a lot more quickly. The 9000 is also known for shifter fork problems. They changed the linkage for the 9600. Make sure it shifts smoothly. If it has Dual Power it is a great durable unit, but it is difficult to tell its condition. The DP is not difficult or expensive to reseal however. Like any old tractor it will have had a lot of condensation in the cases over the years and there can be a half inch of sludge on the bottom. of the rear housing if it has not been cared for.

what i have seen of them they were good tractors i don't no why there weren't more of them sold around here

We have and had 8000, 9000, 9600. TW15, 276 Bi-directional,2 8970's, 2 8770's and cavitation has never been a problem for us.We always used good antifreeze and added a water condition. The Sims injector pumps give good service and are cheaper to rebuild than Bosh. Just change oil in pump separately every time you change oil every 100 hours. You need to be careful when screwing in fill plug, drain plud and level plug because it a aluminum body with fine threads and if not careful you can cross thread . The oil in pump may become a little diluted with diesel fuel by oil change time but that is not a concern. The later series had engine oil connected to and circulated with engine oil.The 404 is a very good engine and was the as Genises 456.

The camshaft box oil on my 9000 gets diluted down with fuel so that I change it about every two hours. But then, that is about eight hooks, and the pump is pushing twice the fuel that it did originally, LOL
