I have a couple of cylinders leaking. They have a notch cut in the barrel and a keeper that is like wire, about the size of a top wire on hog wire. I have seen lots of that type but never disassembled one. Is it difficult and what is the procedure?

Is the wire square, like key stock ?

If can get a hold on gland just turn till find end.Usually turn to left lift wire up and keep turning till falls out. Disassemble as usuall by pulling rod out

You don't say what it's from, but if it's a Ford locking wire it's easy with a hook wrench. Below is a page from the manual I used with my Ford 455D backhoe loader lift cylinders.

You might have to tap the end cap down in a little so the wire will come out of the notch.

the inside keeper is square and its best if You used the proper wrench to turn it out - the wrench is called a spanner wrench I believe --good luck!!-- Roy
