Rotella T4 and Rotella T 15-40?

Been Reading of people using Rotella Diesel oils in the Gas Tractors.
the 15-40 ? Ive seen where there are 2 kinds out there the (Rotella T 15-40 "Heavy Duty")
and (Rotella "T4" 15-40). Which one of the two are you guys using? The Heavy Duty T or the
T4?

Neither one. I use Delo 15/40.
While some people rave about Shell products, perhaps the Rotella is different, I have had too much experience with all other Shell products and steer away from them.

T4 is the newer replacement for rotella T... The "T4" blended oil product ( part syn and part reg oil) new name,,, and to helps it line up with the synthetic "T6" (fully synthetic) name.... But I suspect even the T6 is a blend of synthetic oils. T6 oils would be more important if you operate in extremely cold weather or outside "normal design" environments. I personally dont do snow removal, or plant/plow/hay below 32 degrees, so T4 is fine for my 32 to 120 degree days.

Yeah. Ive bought some of the Delo Sae30 oil but its rated as a Cf API? Which ive heard is not good for gas engines etc. It use to sae API CF/SL ? Is the 15-40 delo ok for old gas engines?

Well, In my ignorance, blissful as it is, I have only heard that the diesel grade oil is a heavy duty oil and contains zinc which helps keep the flat tappet cams alive in contrast to the energy conserving oil that today's cars use. The EC oil drains off of surfaces too fast and is more prone to "dry starts". Zinc is not good for a catalytic converter and can cause failure of those.
So if your non cat veh is a flat tappet cam, heavy duty oil might be in order. The diesel grade is just a lazy man's way out in the abundance of supply and the need not to look too far.

Ever think about how much better either oil is compared to what was on the store shelves when that tractor was new ?

Just about any oil that's clean will do fine in old tractors, even non detergent recycled. Don't strain over the oil too much. I use 20w50 Walmart brand where there's too much oil consumption.

Depends on the oil. The latest oils to be used with ULSD engines don't have (much?) zinc either - it messes with the Tier 4 emissions.
