is a header trailer built heavy enough to haul round bales? i have never been close to one to see how they are built, but looking at pics looks like might coule fairly easily be turned in to a side dumping hay trailer. anyone ever seen this done or are they not built heavy enough for the task? just got the idea while looking for equipment for sale on this cold day.

The two types of header trailers I'm familiar with are the four-wheel wagon style and the kind that is more like a gooseneck trailer that has a tow dolly on the front. The wagon
styles are typically fairly light and don't have much structure between the axles since the header sets on pads directly above the axles. They also tend to have small diameter
tires. The gooseneck styles are a lot heavier built and are designed for high-speed towing. Either way 5 or 6 large round bales would about equal the weight that they are
designed for.

You will easily bent the frames on most header trailers hauling round bales. Even a large 12 row 30 inch header would weight maybe #12000. So that would only be 7-8 round bales. Then the weight can be concentrated over a smaller area where with the header it is spread out over a long area on the trailer.

Your would be better off taking a bale trailer and making a header trailer out of it then the other way around.
