Hobart torch kit

Does anybody have any experience with these small Hobart torches?

I had one. I bought it on clearance at sears for $150. Small bottles were expensive to keep filled around here, about the same price as much larger leased bottles.

Too small to really do much brazing with. Too small to really do much cutting with. It was handy for smaller jobs, though, and great to heat with. I sold it in a yard sale and got my $150 back.

I?m wanting one to keep on the service truck I have a map gas torch and it quit working so I thought one of these would be a good idea . What does it cost to fill the bottles

if you not in a huge hurry i would start checking out the scene, if your not in a huge hurry that is. Those super small bottles do not go very far and you dont get much total time before they are empty. Ive been seeing all size bottle sets with hoses and what nots for around 2 to 250 bucks.

I have the Victor set similar to this. Price to fill about 1/2 of big bigger tanks. It does not last very long but it's well worth it to me for the convenience. I did get a spare set of tanks to keep full for back up. I have been able to put them in the truck, do the job and back in the time it would have taken to load the tanks of the bigger torch by myself.

$39.45 here in Dallas at Airgas for exchange on both bottles.

Ask about a different one piece cutting tip before purchase. The tip that came with mine seems to be larger than needed.
Mine was a Lincoln set and everything on it said Harris.

just filled both large bottles for 76.00 here in ohio. have a small set in service truck

You can fill the oxygen off your large tank. Go to your welding supply store and get 2 oxy regulator nipples for attatching to tank and a brass coupler. Screw them together and you can hook the tanks together. Then you can open the valves and fill the small tank. Open the valves slow and not far.

I bought a set of small tanks years ago. The rent on large tanks was a killer.
I picked up a second oxygen tank at a yard sale so I don't run out. I use it mostly for cutting in the field or heating frozen nuts because I now use a plasma cutter close to power and air. I just bought a 8000 watt generator to see if it will run the cutter and a small compressor.

That is for convenience in the filed not for longevity of the gas bottles. If you are at your shop I would use full size bottles.

That?s what I was thinking it would be handy to have on the service truck and I could load and unload it easy and do the jobs I do with my now broken map gas torch plus some more jobs

I have the next size bottles up that I bought outright. I use Thoroughbred exchange cylinders at the local farm store. Around $25 for a oxy exchange and around $45 for a acet exchange. Quick and easy. Don't buy the bottles from them, though, they are way overpriced. Next size up are easy to move and last a lot longer. Stand about 2ft tall.
