cattle water

Good deal just came in a little while ago from checking cattle and the cattle waterers are all open and working as should be. Had -18 when I went out at 630 this morning. Had one water give me trouble a couple days ago so put 40 watt bulb inside it. Seems to work. Started 1650 and feed this morning and it was a little stiff but started good but was plugged in so it should. Hope it warms up a little later in the week.

40 watt light bulbs keep my waterers going in the winter along with the factory heaters. A little goes a long way.

Weather lady said -18F was our low last night. We have a well part ways up a hill. Ran from the bottom of the well 50 yards downhill under ground is a pipe dumping in to a tank. Water always runs. Gets down to a trickle in dry times but has never quit since installed. Heat from the ground water keeps it open for the most part. Wasn't sure what I'd find this morning but it was open.

I added more insulation to the inside of my Ritchie waters and put a small bulb inside. As of this morning it's still working.

I had to replace the wire that feeds my Behlen, from a junction box between the barn rafters it was inside the wall, through a block in the foundation and under the concrete slab to the waterer. Must be shorted out somewhere in there, ran a new one temporarily between the barn and waterer, in the sliding door and up to the junction box, everything works fine again. Will replace with better in spring.

Have had to put bulls in all of our Ritchie?s. (6) Either heating elements or heat tapes bad. Had to replace one gfi outlet. Only fountain that hasn?t been touched is the jug and have it set with about 1 1/2? of water in bowl. Have an outlet under it but no bulb no heater and the water is 100% clean. I am sold on the jug. I would gladly pay a little more for trouble free service. Seem like I fight freezing all winter and algae all summer in the Ritchie?s with stainless tanks.
