F150 compass/thermometer

My 2002 F150, that I haul Hank my 8N with, has developed an electrical hiccup. Where the headliner meets the center of the windshield there is a digital display that shows the temperature and direction one is going. It started failing recently but a rap or two usually brought it back to life. This no longer works and it has apparently become deceased. All symptoms that I recognize suggest this is a ground or other contact problem. My issue is that I don't know for sure how to get into it and since it's still a pretty nice truck, I don't want to start cobbling on it. Do any of y'all know about such calamities and how to successfully remedy them? Thanks, gm

Simple. Go to a junkyard and have them remove one out of another vehicle as you watch. Most of them have snap in clips. Some have hidden screws under little pushin plugs. It shouldn't cost very much as it is a low value item. My Explorer was snap in. Have like a six wire harness connection. If you need to go on Ebay as soon as you unbox the purcase you will see how to put it in. Remember to read the owners manual as to the calbration for the unit. Set the magnetic zone and then drive in a circle a couple of times.
