Delo400 30W oil

I use Delo 400 30W in all my old iron that called for straight 30W. I have heard that 15-40 is only formulated for newer engines and may not be good for the older stuff.

I used 15-40 in one of my old tractors, and it seized a piston, and scoured the cylinder wall. This was on a tractor with many hours. I only use straight wt oil now. I use 15-40 in my newer tractors with no problems. Stan

isn't that the oil some loggers used in their skidders & dozers hydraulic systems instead of regular hyd. oil? Claimed it was better than the regular oil in every respect.

Hi Chief ....... not doubting the fact that you had an engine seize up but somehow I doubt very much that it had anything to do with using modern 15W40 motor oil. Believe it if you wish, but I don't think that was the reason, countless tens of thousands of old engines use modern oils with no ill effects.

Multigrade oil is just thin oil with polymers added as thickeners. I believe in lubricating my engines with oil not polymers. I only will use 30W as the book called for.
