Burning wood in California

Heard something on the radio the other day about stopping people from burning wood(fireplaces, etc.)in or near San Francisco?Did not catch it all.anyone hear that report?nothing would surprise me coming out of the republic of California

Never heard it, but it wouldn't surprise me. Actually, the tree huggers are at least partially responsible for the fires in California. The tree huggers won't let the lumber companies harvest the mature trees, so the trees die a natural death and become prime fuel for forest fires.

Permanently or as a temporary air quality measure? Air quality there is awful now due to all the fires. My sister in law lives there, they were wearing dust masks outside for a couple of weeks when the SOnoma fires were on, and are again because the smoke from LA fires is coming up the valley. While it sounds extreme, it has been pretty terrible lately.

My sister in law is a tough woman, but the smoke really got to her.

That is common in the western cities, they get an inversion layer and the smoke does not get over the mountains and out, it gets pretty bad.

We have spare the air days here when low pressure systems do not allow for dissipation of smoke. If wood is your only source of heat, you may use it. If you remodel or build, you may not have a wood stove. You may have a stove that burns something other than would that has scrubbers and/or a catalytic system. I think you can have a fireplace but it has the same requirements. Often these things greatly limit the amount of heat the unit generates. All new homes and remodels must have fire sprinklers whether you have a home or not (mega bucks. ONly a licensed certified pro can install, not your plumber. No way can you do it.).

Burn barrels have been banned for years.

I was in the Nuns Fire in Sonoma County. Pretty much every home that had a wood pile within 75 feet of the home was lost. The radiant heat and winds were insane. Also, palm trees were the kiss of death. I'm dropping all ours.

It is funny how they would like to ban cigarettes, regulate the air, CARB requirements on diesel, hotlines to turn in violators anonymously, dust control regs, warnings about smoke from the fire, warnings about spare the air day, you may not smoke in your apartment, on and on, yet your neighbor may have a stinky pot garden and smoke you out of house and home. Remember, all those other forms of smoke are bad but pot smoke is good.

If you want to do an ag burn, have fun with this:
Control burn regs:

You like breathing polluted air, you don't have any kind of cancer yet, just wait! Wood burning is banned in the Phoenix valley most of the winter, the air is so polluted you can't see very far at all.

Seems the vast majority of wildfires in Calli are not in timber/log worthy areas of the state.
Rather in populated areas that are knarly brush with not enough shade to stop ground cover.
And then allowing the dead ground cover to accumulate year after year.

It is stuff like this that comes out of California almost daily, that makes me glad i don't live in California.

i feel bad for those that are stuck and cannot move....

I lived in California one time. One of the main reasons that I moved; a big percentage of my house payment was taxes and I had a sign nailed on my inside garage wall that said that it was a $10000 fine to remove the sign which nodified me that I could not finish the wall, which was an open stud wall, without obtaining a permit. If California was the only place in the US to live, I would move to Russia.

My condolences to those stuck in the Peoples Republik of California. The governmental abuses won't stop until enough of you take action to stop it. Just remember that when you do move out to not spread those ways to your destination. Good luck.
