Country Music

Is it just me or is country music taking a turn back to the older type of music? And I'm not talking old like Wayland Jennings, I mean like back in the nineties. I haven't enjoyed it much the last ten years or so. There are even some songs playing on the radio that sound to me like disco. Some that I think of are Round here buzz by Eric Church; When it rains it pours by Luke Coombs; Greatest Love Story by Lanco; and five more Minutes by Scotty McCreery. There is even some steel guitar in most of them.

I'm with you, haven't cared much for the candy music lately. It wasn't country music, hopefully we have made the turn back too the Ryman Auditorium

Only listen to CD's. We have Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Oak Ridge Boys, Statler Bros., Reba (wife likes her), Alan Jackson, and "MY" personal favorite, Mr. Don Williams!!

There seems to be a small hidden push to bring it back. I've noticed it too there are a few good songs coming out in newly released country as of late. I hope that wheel keeps turning back to better actual country music(based with stories and soul.. ect).

Some of that wanna be country makes my mind hurt trying to figure out how its "Country". I actually turn the radio DOWN to nothing on some of em. Songs like "Body like a Back Road"(Sam Hunt) and "I'd be jealous too"(Dustin Lynch), I can't stand...no country soul in em

I've noticed that. Several of the younger female singers are a little more country too, I can't remember their names yet.

A hopeful trend.

Alternative country and Americana are
becoming more popular. I don't listen to
new mainstream country to know if it's
coming back. But there are plenty of new
artists who are doing plenty with fiddles
and steel guitars. It's still all so good

I like country, rock, folk and nothing has come out of any of them for quite a while I really want to listen to,but the good part is now almost all the old music is available so I can listen to that.

(quoted from post at 04:51:51 12/26/17) I don't know, the last country station I came across was playing country rap music.
have noticed the same thing. Do not understand why they feel the need to trash the very type of music that made their name known. Although I never cared for her so called singing at least Taylor Swift announced to the world that she was interested in a lower class of music. No real loss when she shifted and at least she left and didn't try and fool her followers into thinking she loved country music any more. I do not think she really ever did, just a means to an end.

Taylor Swift? Country?!?!? I don't think there has ever been anything "country" about her. ...Then again, I've never been a fan.

Its funny how folks complain about "screeching" violins in Irish or classical music, but like screeching electric guitars.

If it's turning back,I haven't heard it. The local station plays country oldies. I listen to WRVK out of Renfro Valley Ky in the house most of the time. They play mostly old stuff and local artists.
When we were headed home from Tennessee in August, the wife fell asleep and I didn't want to take my eyes off the road long enough to change CDs,so I tuned in to two different "modern" country stations. Didn't take me long to get real sick of listening to the same song over and over, just with different words and different names of the same sounding artists. I quit listening to modern country radio back when I couldn't turn it on without hearing Kenny Rogers or the Oak Ridge Boys. It never seemed to improve after that sickening period in time.

I turn the radio off if regular broadcast is my only other option mainstream news being worse than the music

Back in the 1950s we listened to Renfro Valley some. The announcer talked about "the beautiful Renfro Valley." Recently we were on a trip and passed by the Renfro Valley. Probably hasen't changed mych but is beside a Interstate now. We didn't stay for any performances. They have a group of well maintained frame buildings with parking spots marked for performers. It is a pretty montain valley.

Agree 100%, smokin' dope is so fricking cool I forgot to be impressed (same for alcohol) Waylon was buried without any feet, because they had to be amputated, he wouldn't take care of his diabetes.

Double plus on Don Williams.
