Hats for Christmas

I asked for, then Santa brought me a few new hats to wear to the shop. I got one Snapon and four John Deere. Three are mesh for summer, two are soild for cooler weather.I was very happy with this, an it got me to thinking. Years ago I never asked for a work hat. Maybe a winter one with ear flaps, but never a summer baseball style. If I walked into a dealership or parts store wearing a really worn, or dirty one, a new was tossed up on the counter at me. If you did ask about one, one was given to you. Now when you ask at the dealer you get 15-18 bucks added to your bill. Napa or Carquest never just hands them over like before. Is this just me, or maybe just this little slice of Paradice I live in? I still can get one now and then off the seed corn guys. Al

Got a free one at tractor supply this past summer. Just stop in and ask if they are going to hand out any freebies.

I wanted a stormy kromer. The wife got me one with fur lined ear muffs and no draw string. There's no adjustment in the band and it's too big. Too late now,I'll just have to live with it.

I remember when the dealerships didn't want you advertising for them in an old dirty hat as well. When corporate figured out there was good money to be made selling them that all went away. When I left the dealership years ago all we could get free was a dealership hat & it was bu-- ugly. Pretty sure the last free Deere hat tossed to me was in the early ninety's.

I gave up on the Stormies, (no earlaps) I had a gift certificate from my sweet sister to Filsons, its a Mackinaw earlaper, homely as sin, but I could give a d__m, supposedly America made.

This year I received my Dads (God rest his soul) JB Stetson, him and I bought in Tombstone Arizona back in 1981, ( we both bought one) my sister told me as we were emptying out our childhood home, I think you should take this home.

Remember all those neat premiums you?d get from the phone company, the local creamery, the feed mill, the implement dealer... Stuff like pie spatulas, ice cream scoops, cheese cutters, pitcher, bowls, pocket knives, little screw drivers... Did I mention seed corn dealers? You always got a seed corn cap.

Nowadays you have to beg. We got a neat little multi tool with all the beverage weapons for exhibiting at the Forest City show and dang it I feel like it got something there. It?s not top notch, but it?s the thought that counts.

Got a hat this past year from both State Farm and from Discount Auto Parts. I'm not a fan of DAP here though, but they have a great hot-weather cap!

Also have a pair of really nice mechanic's gloves that have Aggassiz Insurance on them, though I got them for cheap(!!) in a 2nd-hand store, but brand new. Have been to Grand Forks Salvation Army a few times and have seen LOTS of brand new hats there for just a dollar. Pretty cheap advertising, if you ask me. I don't mind paying the dollar as these are normally much better quality caps. Haven't been there in a couple years, but I bet companies are still advertising that way.

Randy, You can get that hat exchanged with Stormy Kromer. Ordered one too small for my husband 2 years ago. They exchanged it but it took about 3 weeks to get the replacement.

I flat refuse to buy hats with company logos on them. I'm not going to pay them to advertise for them. They can either give them to me or I will advertise for someone else. I've still got bunches of them in the bedroom from when I was still working, given by contractors and equipment suppliers.
