Any of you folks from there or have knowledge of the area....QUESTION Many used trucks for sale here in Michigan are bought at auction and sold on their lots and they come from Newfoundland. Was wondering about the use of SALT over there.....

No knowledge, just this Saturn Ad
Mr Google implies they use plenty of salt.

Nfld uses salt pretty heavy, plus it is surrounded by saltwater so corrosion is pretty high. Its bad enough that aircraft there need to use corrosion inhibitors if they are parked outside for any period of time.

I bought a F350 once that had come off the rock. Low mileage, severe corrosion. Drove it for 3 or 4 years until one day got pulled over by MTO (DOT in Ontario). They pulled the plates off it! I once also hauled 2 pickups and a sedan from an auction in Nfld as a back haul. They all had severe corrosion. Used vehicles from there sell cheap due to the corrosion and the expense of getting them from there to here.

Thanks fellas--that is what I suspected. Can't believe all the trucks coming over from Canada and selling at auctions here in Michigan....

It is the dollar difference causing that. While shopping for a new truck,I would see over a hundred brand new trucks on a dealers lot, and maybe one used pickup. Dealers have jockeys hauling them steadily to the

MY son worked for a new car dealer (London Ontario). They sold most trade ins to a broker who shipped them to Michigan. Supposedly the emission tests are less stringent there. My sister lives in Newfoundland and has had snow almost to her roofline. Their temperatures are about the same as Ontario or Michigan so I would expect they throw the salt around pretty freely.

If lived in Stephenville Nfld for two years while in Army 55 to 57. They didn't have hard surfaced roads except for the main street in town that the Air Force built for them and on the Base so not much salt in those days. But, the cars were still near total destroyed in a few years. Taxi service had new 57 Meteors (Fords) and they took a real beating in just a few months.
And yes, talk about snow.
