Favorite Christmas song?

I have collected Christmas songs since I was a teenager. Started recording them off the radio and trying hard not to catch the commercials and DJ's. Later I got a dual cassette deck so that I could edit. The digital age is great although a lot of really great old songs are not in digital format. My list currently contains 446 songs and takes 23 hours and 5 minutes to play. It will play in the house almost constantly now until midnight Monday. Mostly mainstream...some modern and a lot of really old traditional songs. I clearly need more songs soooooo I thought I would ask again this year. What is your favorite Christmas song? Last year I added a bunch from suggestions I got here. Help is appreciated! Merry Christmas all!

I thought we were the only ones recording on cassette off the radio. A local station played Christmas music from noon Christmas Eve until noon Christmas Day uninterrupted except for brief weather reports. In 1983 the high in Austin was 18 and the low was 12 (F not C). I loved to play that tape on other Christmas' an watch the expression when someone actually heard a forecast. "It'
s 18 headed for a low tonight of 12."

Little Drummer Boy by Bing Crosby and David Bowie.

Think I read somewhere that Bing actually passed before the song was released.

In the video they did for the song, he sure didn't look to good.

"If I wanted to listen to Christmas music I would have went to the mall with my wife."

Yea, back in the middle of October.

The song about Christmas cookies where the guy eats em as fast as she cooks em and then there?s 15 minuets for some more kissin and a huggin

Hi, one of my favorite is: Christmas in the valley. By Wayne Ronstad. Check Utube. Hope you like it. Ed Will

Most anything by Mannheim Steamroller.
Trans Siberian Orchestra has some good ones also. A favorite of mine from them is "Christmas Canon Rock".

Those are my favorites too - esp the
Christmas Canon.

And Steamroller's Silent Night is
hauntingly beautiful.

"O Holy Night" is my favorite, but second best is the secular "I'll Be Home for Christmas" by Bing Crosby or Nat King Cole or just about anybody. When I hear the song I can envision hundreds of thousands of GIs writing home from their foxholes in Europe or the Pacific islands.

Elmo and Patsy Percy The puny Poinsettia. or ding a ling by Lynn Anderson can't decide. After that I go Redneck 12 days or Leroy the redneck reindeer. Didn't even hear any of em yet this season :(

Isn't that the truth? I listen to that one and I can get misty eyed thinking about it. I don't think a lot of people remember how bad that was or how long it lasted.

I agree with reslls on BNL with Sarah McLaughlin. If you want some funny ones Bob rivers has some great ones.

That is one of the more modern versions of songs that I have in my list. I liked it when I heard it. Been on the list for 3-4 years. :)

If you lived in the Detroit area including suburbs in the 1960-70's then WJOI - The Beautiful Sounds of Christmas was an annual show starting sometime on Christmas Eve and ending at midnight on Christmas night. There was little or no music for family get togethers earlier in the month. National Bank of Detroit (now Chase) sponsored and published a full list of songs and artists and the times they would play. I recorded hours of this music over many years. Sadly, it does not transfer from the cassettes well and sounds a bit mushy. I have spent many hours in December scouring the internet for digital versions of those songs and have a lot of them in my list. It's a great hobby for one month of the year! :)

Little Drummer Boy from David Bowey and Bing Crosby or Merry Christmas from the family by Mongomery Gemtry.

Tfans Siberian orchestra puts on a
fantastic show. If they ever get near
your town it's worth the money. My
nieghbor talked my wife and I into
going. He claims the laser show rivals
anything Pink Floyd did in back in the
day. Lol he has about 40 years on me
but I believe him.

May have said the 1st choice last year, but I love Chris Tomlin" O Holy Night". 2nd is same album he sings it with Christy Nockels." Come thou long expected Jesus". Background music is Kenny G. Calms the crowd!

All I know is that I'm really sick of hearing "I'll Be Home For Christmas". Seems that everyone that thinks they can carry a tune has recorded it.
I sure will be glad when Tuesday gets here.
Loren

I'm sorry to hear that Loren. Seems like you are missing out on a lot of good in the holiday. Best wishes. Tuesday will come too soon around here!

(so we keep up the holiday until NYD!!!)

:)

Good suggestions this year!!! I added four to the list. Some were already on the list. Appreciate the help, Merry Christmas!
