Got my dividend check from our local Coop for propane usage the past year.

A whole $1.54.

I get my electricity from a coop, this month bill paid with dividend, and a favorable balance toward next month.

Several years ago I got a dividend check from a Coop that I rarely did business. $13.67. I put the check on my desk and the wife filed it thinking it was a paid invoice. So I got a 1099 for that check. While getting my records ready to do my taxes I found the original check. My bank told me that it was no longer good because it was too old. I called the Coop and they could not replace it as they no longer where an Coop. They had sold out to another outfit. No problem for the amount it was. I go to get my taxes done. My tax guy had to file a form for the dividend because of the 1099. I pay a flat rate PLUS so much for each addendum to my tax preparer. That cost and the taxes on the $13.67 was more than the check was. Plus I did not get the check cashed. LOL So my dividend cost me money.

It probably cost them more than that to print the check and mail it. It would have been simpler if they'd just taken it off of my propane bill, but I guess everything has to jump through the proper hoops.
