stolen from Boyden Iowa -- a john deere 4020 -- narrow front -- with a black miller loader -- any info report to the sioux county sheriffs department -- 712-737-2280 --- scumbags probably need some drug money-- not mine thankfully -- keep your eyes open -- thanks - Roy

I guess I'm pretty dumb, but what would they do with it? Craigs list, or a consignment sale?
Looks like nothing's safe anymore.............

Most likely they hauled it to a different state and sold it. A number of years ago there was a couple of thieves that would steal a smaller/compact tractor from here in Oregon and haul it to Washington and sell it. While they were there, they would steal a similar tractor in Washington and sell it here. This went on for a few years. The only reason they got caught was their attempt to sell the tractor to the local tractor salvage yard instead of a private buyer. The owner of the salvage yard called the sheriff and busted the thieves. If it doesn't have license or a track able title it will be hard to find.

Drug heads with a truck, an implement trailer, and a prearranged buyer, that also know how load and haul away a tractor without drawing attention?

Yup. I?ve made similar comments on here about this. It isn?t just gangbangers that are thieves. We had a huge excavator stolen from a highway project here. The owners came looking for it a week later. Same thing, a lowboy, semi, and guys who know how to operate the equipment.

Do you really think that meth-heads would have enough ambition to steal a 4020? Where would they get the truck and trailer? Unless they stole that also?

You would be surprised what someone with enough nerve can pull off. I was on a project building a State Police Troop headquarters, and a guy stole a Cat 335 excavator. He was eventually caught, but it was a year later

Its not about ambition -- its usually desperation that drives any thief -- Hey Big-T --- still miss that tractor -- Ya had to bring it up didnt ya --LOL -- Roy

Can anyone provide an instance in one of these threads where it turned out that "druggies" stole a tractor to sell for drug money?

That's where you guys always go first. It's the "druggies" that done took yer tractor... I don't recall any in recent memory that turned out to be druggies looking to sell them for drug money. They may have been ON drugs when they took the tractor, for a joyride, or when they thought they could add it to their personal collection.

My guess is they'll find the tractor within a few mile radius, parked in some bushes, probably with some damage.

Or it’s a insurance deal. Doesn’t run, cost too much to fix, scrap it out, then say it’s stolen.

We have a druggie here who did in fact steal a tractor then try to sell it. Yea he got caught, tractor was recovered......no jail time. Kinda funny in a way. Every time this guy gets caught steeling something right after he gets released the county has a larger than normal drug bust.....

Yes! Ever been around anyone on the stuff?
All sorts of ambition for a few days
usually, followed by a big crash where
they sleep for a couple days. I worked with
a guy with some problems. Best worker ever
when he showed.
