JD 7000 planter question

I found my serial number, thank you. It is 119802 which makes it a 1982 model I believe. I am attaching a picture that shows the front square tube is welded. It is welded on both sides- it almost looks like it was added on to. The top square tube (7" x 7"?) is also welded in the same place on both sides. Does anyone have an idea why this would be welded in these places?

Maybe to change the frame of a narrow row to wide row? Dad had that done on the White no-till planter he bought in the 80s. It was a 6 X 30 and he wanted 6 X 36, so the dealer added to the frame to get the sale.

Gotta love structural butt welds. Nothing stronger. Unless there is an internal sleeve. Don't see any signs of one.

Try replacing that worn out furrow opener with a 13 wave yetter.About 14 inch diameter. True no til eith that and double HD down springs.
