I am the owner of a 47 Ford 9N that has, over the last five or so years contracted a distinct 'knock' in the hydraulic pump when I raise the lift arms by moving the quadrant lever to the up position. I have had this old girl since 1974, with very few problems. I have, in my spare parts box, an 8N hydraulic pump that looks identical to my 9N pump except for the position control valve lever. Am I better off to change out both the pump and the quadrant lever/lift cylinder casting as a pair? I have both parts and they were supposedly in good working order when they were removed.
