Pa had one mounted on the 36 JD. B I don't think the center boom was quite that wide but maybe it was. There was a wooden frame you bolted on tractor hitch and set a 55 gallon oil drum on it for tank. Man he did a lot of spraying with that setup. I think he sprayed in 3rd. gear but when he came to thistle patch he would spray going foreword in 1st. gear then spray backing up through patch then spray it again going through in 3rd. It's a wonder this ground isn't sterile.

I didn’t realize 2-4D was used that early. Up until the mid-60’s our broadleaf eradication system was called Marie and Jim. Marie was my sister and I am Jim.

A few years ago I was cleaning out a old barn so it could be taken down. I found a old 5 gallon red, and white metal container (dow 2-4-D) that was covered up with some junk in a corner (I wish I never uncovered it), it didn't have any liquid in it, the big cap was off of it, but man did it ever stink. I don't see how in the world anyone could have sprayed that stuff like they did.

I still have the sprayer here that Dad bought new when the 8N Ford was being sold. The sprayer was demonstrated on the race track during the machinery parade at the fair, Sure they just had water in it then. So it is between 1948 and 1952 when Dad bought it.
