Soon as I saw the number I figured it was a scammer calling to steal my money. Someone with barely understandable English said they were from windows and they received notification that my computers been hacked and they need to walk me through the process to undo the damages. I just said "Can't you get a real job you piece of sh!t!!?" I apparently want in the mood.

They have pretty thick skin. They just go on to the next number.

Not all of them. One called me right back one time and asked me if I kiss my wife with that mouth.

I've gotten those before and I usually say "Really? That's strange, I don't own a computer" just to see what they'll say.

definitely a scam I didn,t get a call but a Microsoft warning popped up it looked legit froze my computer up had to take it to bestbuy to get fixed cost 200.00 be aware

I've gotten the same call 3or4 times or more, told them the same thing as you, told them I had an Apple comp., told them I didn't have a computer and just hung up a few times and told them to transfer me to Bill Gates.

Mom & Dad got scammed by one of those calls. They were already having issues with Dad's AOL and Dad who had a stroke is not at all as computer savvy as he once was and can't really speak. Mom knows nothing at all about computers.
I heard about it soon after and told her to get ahold of everyone to be on the look out for missing funds and also shut down all their computer stuff. They do not even have a computer now but still get a lot of those calls. I think they got lucky and no bank accounts got hacked.

I had one that called me , somewhere around 6/7 times. I finally ------ him off enough that he stared calling me a mother fucter. I just started to laugh. Eventually he went to the next person, but made my day that I ------ them off.

I got the call about a week ago and acted real concerned and thanked him for watching over my computer. Led him to believe he had a live one on the line. I asked him if he could take care the problem and he assured me he could. I asked him for address where I should send payment to him. Told him I will pay whatever price he needs to charge so we can nip this problem in the bud. Click.

When it does that, just click your off button or shut the computer completely off and then turn it back on. That is what I do when I get those stupid Microsoft messages on screen.

I've cussed'em, made remarks about their culture, and even questioned their mothers antics. Then I started another approach. As soon as they start their speal I state that I'm a government employ and by law they need to know the call is being traced and recorded. A click is all I hear. Been sometime since I had one.

Another pain with the smartphones.
Ther are several sites I used to go on but no more. They got an infection that uses Android. Your buzzer goes off and then a drawing with a broken robot or computer comes up and says you have 60 seconds to fix your severely infected computer. Dont panic. Just keep turning your internet on and off till one time in the lower right corner the TAB will show up. Hit tab, go to others and hit clear all. That usually gets everything cleared out. The guys at the phone store showed me that one.

The kinder, gentler IRS is supposedly sending out notices via e-mail to help you avoid prosecution, if you just settle now. The FBI does the same thing alleging you have accessed an illegal site. I trust everyone reads this as sarcasm. Those boys love busting doors.

They tried to get my mom the same way she didn?t know it was a scam luckily she didn?t give them any money

I use my old persons voice (yea, I know) and say, "sonny I can barley hear you let me get my phone amplifier" I then set the phone down and walk away.

They cannot get me because I don't answer the phone unless I know the name and number on caller Id. and usually it would go to answering machine to find later if they did leave a message as they will not.

What seems to get them is when you ask where they are. They try the "at work" thing, but I persist and keep asking. After a bit they hang up.

There are only a couple of ways to get scammed. That is allowing yourself to get scammed by opening emails from senders you don't recognize, offers of something for free, offers which appear to be too good to be true, clicking on pop-ups, providing financial information to total strangers, etc, etc, and answering phone calls from numbers you don't recognize.

Don't do any of the above and you will rarely get scammed.

Don't answer knocks at the front door either.

I was at my mothers one day and the phone rang. Guy said he was a lawyer trying to settle an estate fork my mothers cousin. I took it as a scam and threw some snarky questions at him. The conversation ended. He called back later when I was not there. Mothers cousin had died and was a wealthy man. He had directed his fortune to go to several different places but had somehow missed yan account that had 250,000 in it. When the money was split amount the closest next of kind my mom got about 32 grand.

I played along with one one time. He had me start the computer and then asked what I saw on the screen. I told him that it said"you are talking to a scammer". He was gone right now.

Just got one of these calls on Monday and said the same thing. Took the fool a few times hearing it for it to sink in before he hung up.
