Farmall M noise. Throw out bearing?

I was over at a friends last night loading hay for the horses. He was loading bales with the M and suddenly it started making a "clunk clunk " noise. only made noise when clutch pedal was released and it doesnt matter if tractor is moving or standing still. Thoughts?

His tractor does not have a belly pump . It has been changed to a distributor pump. So with that being said. Easy fix?

Although my initial feeling is to agree with Jim?s diagnosis I feel different terminology could lead to
an incorrect assessment here. You say ?clutch pedal released? which means to me foot off the
clutch and driven components behind the clutch rotating. However, when I simply say ?clutch
released? l mean the pedal is pushed and the lined clutch plate and driven
components behind the clutch is stopped or is stopping rotation. Jim?s diagnosis is likely true if
you are going by the first description. Repairing the coupling is not a terribly difficult job, but you
will be on your back and crud will most likely be falling in your eyes. If your description is the
second choice that would most likely mean the noise is being caused by the throw-out bearing.

Better language to use the words clutch engaged or disengaged. I guess if a newbie is sitting on the tractor with his foot down you might say "release the clutch so you can move". Which is engaging, of course.

Ok. Just to clarify. When clutch is engaged (foot off pedal) it makes noise. When disengaged ( foot on pedal) no noise
