Nary a mention of the Sinai peninsula. The Egyptians destroyed about 500 Israeli tanks in the 1973 war. When I toured the east side of the Suez Canal in 1992, there were still many of those tanks scattered across the desert where they were hit and where their crews perished.

The friend I have done some military restorations for drove a tank when he was in the service in the mid-50's. He said he will never own a tank. It would be fun to restore one but I don't have big enough facilities or equipment to do it. Last restoration I did was a WW2 M4 high speed tractor that was designed off of the platform of a smaller tank. It has the same tracks as a Sherman but shorter. That thing was at the maximum for my abilities.
I watched a documentary showing a team of guys restoring a tank in Europe somewhere. They took two tanks, cut them in two front and back half and welded the front half of one tank onto the back half of the other tank. They were equipped with big overhead gantry hoists and plenty of room. What a project! Maybe some of you guys saw that show too.

Think it was in England. They do a lot of that stuff. The only thing
that lined up the two halfs of the tank was the turret ring! Same
series, check out the guys rebuilding the Tiger tank.

You are right about that !!! A friend of my dads has more money than we will ever see. He found a bunch of stuff down in central or south America and hired a ship! The whole deck was covered. With surplus WWII tanks, armored cars, and tons and tons of surplus parts. Everything was sold before the ship even docked. Guys came to his yard, selected the one they wanted, finished paying, got the paper work, and by by.
