John Deere 7000 planter

I am driving 3 hours this weekend to look at a J.D. 7000 6 row dry fertilizer planter. If I buy it I will have to trailer it home. 2 Questions: About how much will this planter weigh? I will have to load the planter sideways on the trailer so if I take off/swivel up the tongue how wide will this thing be? Will I be legal to haul it or will it be too wide to haul this way on the trailer?
Thank You for your replies.

when mine got here it was on a tralor side ways with the hitch off , i had to put hitch back on to get it off the tralor, these are really good planters.

I hauled a 12 row kinze econ fold. They fold 3 rows forward on each side. Hauled it 6 rows wide oon a 14000 lb. Trailer. No problem. But a little tight a few places. This was in Southern Il. 100 mi. From home. Any trailer should haul it. Sideways will be good. But I imagine if you just take the chains off and pull it home will be faster. But I worked at a dealer for a few years. Got usted to wide loads.

no problem hauling one an a 16' trailer, with fenders, with hitch off. just need a good loader tractor operator.

The tongue is held on with four 1/2 bolts. With the tongue off the planter will be about nine feet in total width when hauled long ways. As for weight. That depends on what style of JD 7000 you are getting but between 3500-5500 Lbs.

If you can pull the trailer along side a bank, you can back it on with some 2x12's or so, and get ready to chain it down. You can leave it chocked in the up position, and use blocks under the tongue behind the split. Chain it tight and remove the front section of the tongue. You'll likely need 3/4" wrenches for the job, and usually the bolts used were carriage bolts unless some idjit changed them. Make sure that you remove ALL covers- seed boxes and fertilizer- or you may not still have them when you get it home....

On 8 row and bigger. On the 4 and 6 row, the hitch doesn't fold back, the front stand is out near the hitch so will need blocking to remove hitch?

Can't recall if it's stock or not but there is a second jack mount on the tongue behind the split on our 7000 planter. It may have been welded on by the previous owner.

Question: Why wouldn't you lower the planter to the deck of the trailer? Seems it would be a lot more stable to haul that way instead of teetering up on the wheels. I know, chain it good, but it just seems it would be easier to chain lowered down.
