Different kind of weather delay

We have been trying to get the 4000 HP natural gas engine tuned after the fuel injection was installed this fall. We have been getting delays due to nice warm weather, no one is using natural gas and pipes are full, so cannot run the engine much. We had about a month delay in September, and will have to wait another week to try again. We got to run it for about 1/2 hour loaded this morning, then had to shut back down and go home.

Knowing nothing about this, it sounds dangerous with a 4000 engine pumping natural gas. Wouldn't an internal spark set the system into an inferno? (or not with the lack of oxygen)

I don't know much about natural gas compressor operation however lack of oxygen will not permit fire. That said, at my job one of the first things I ever helped hot tap was a 20 psi gas line. We put about a 1" tap on a 6" main. I thought the guys were nuts or was some kind of joke or maybe a test like "go get a bucket of steam". Nope welded the thread o let on the pipe drilled it out and put a plug in the valve when done. Never had so much as a spark. Quite a fete when you are just learning. There were some special tools involved in drilling the hole but other than that there was no voodoo or black magic.

I bet that the designers thought of that, as probably did DavidG as well. :)

Just out of high school I applied for a job as a welder at VerMeer Manufacturing. They asked if I was a good welder. I said that depends on the definition of good. They said you are good if you can weld gas pipeline hot. I said I wasn't good nor did I want to be. I was good enough to weld quite a few baler tongues though.
