old roosen master

Acquired an old Continental Industrial engine. It is Diesel and having never worked on one I have some questions that may seem elementary to most of you....is uncharted territory for me.

This is an older model that from what I can see has no glow plugs ( maybe it does but I cannot find them).
CONTINENTAL ENGINE
MODEL - FD242
SPEC - 4201

It is a 4cyl diesel with a Roosen master fuel pump, it has two levers on either side of the pump. I have no earthly idea which does what

The one closest to the block has a twist lock lever ( I am guessing throttle control ) ? and the other is unhooked ( guessing the fuel shutoff ) ?

Any help is appreciated as I would like to have some idea of how to control fuel delivery....

The lever with the Choke cable hooked to it is the fuel ON-OFF control. The lever with springs on the cam mechanism is your throttle control. From the pic. which is unclear, You may have some throttle linkage missing.

So with that said, one is a fuel shutoff and the other is a throttle control.

I did not unhook the linkage to the rear (closest to the block) It is the only one that is connected to a pull lever 'twist lock style'. The other is not connected, and can be rolled 60* in either direction - this doesn't have any spring to return it to any position. Perhaps I will disconnect the other (one closest to the block) to see if it has a spring return mechanism on it..
 
Was this engine ever installed on a standby generator? Might explain no throttle control linkage, on some applications the throttle screws were set and locked to hold the lever in one spot. Continental diesels use intake manifold heaters, early flame type, later electric coil type for cold starting assist.
 

That explains the lack of glowplugs!

As for the cables.....Both are there, except one is detached (the one furthest from the block)

This unit is standalone and is used to run a sawmill via PTO. There is control panel located in the back of the engine which has gauges and control knobs to run the engine; the labels "long worn off", from sitting outside. Having never seen this run I didn't want to crank the engine with fuel shutoff in the wrong position ( have no idea which did what )

I guess I will try to crank and see if it hits by rotating the cam on the injection pump either direction, can't hurt?

I will snap a pic tomorrow to give you a better understanding of what I am working with

I did get it to turnover and unhooked the fuel line fron the roosen master (some nasty stuff came out of the line).... cranked until it looked clean.

cracked the injector line and no fuel is present? Any Ideas? little afraid to mess with the injector pump settings, I also played with the throttle and fuel shutoff (not sure which way is on or off)
