Case 930 won't stay running

930 Case will run on starting fluid but won't continue if I quit feeding it starting fluid. It smokes like it is getting fuel. Any ideas what I need to check ????? Has new fuel filters and primer works good. I took the by pass line off at the injection pump and no fuel there while pumping primer pump.

I have not experienced it, but was adamately warned that the use of starting fluid in Case tractors will crack heads. What you describe sounds like a possibility. BUT, like I said I've not experienced it yet. gobble

Have you recently done major engine work to this
tractor? If you have, I would bet the timing is off. If
you have just run out of fuel, I guess it could be
several things but most likely you just don't have all
of the air out of the lines. Ran my 930 out of fuel
week or two ago, and I just had my son tow me
around a field, with the 930 in high gear till she
barked back to life.
You could also open the bleeder screws, then take
the fuel cap off, and while covering the fuel fill hole
with your hand , blow some compressed air into the
tank. This should push fuel through the system. I
would lay off the starting fluid.

Thanks guys. I got it running for a while but it was shooting fire ( about 5 in ) out the muffler till it feathered out and quit. I just bought the tractor so don't know what the fuel is. Could it have some gas in the fuel to shoot fire like that. when you work them hard I've had them shoot fire but not under no load.

What does "feathered out" mean?
