Minneapolis-Moline G-1000

Hello. My neighbor is selling this Moline G-1000 and I had a couple questions...
I researched the serial number and tractordata says the tractor is a row-crop (number is 30600158) but it is a wide front machine. Does that mean its a row-crop that has a wide front?

The only thing damaged badly on the tractor is a device on the left axle that limits how far you can steer. Is this a major problem?

Is this tractor as unique as tractordata makes it out to be? (only 7,397 manufactured?)

Right now the price for this machine is at $1200. Is this a good deal?
The sheet metal has no dents. Just rusty. Almost perfect condition.
I can get more pictures if that would help.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Have you asked this down on the MM forum? Your best answers will be found there.

Keep in mind that MM parts are expensive and with all the vines still on the left side its been sitting out in the weeds a long time.

As I understand, its called a 'row crop' because the front axle is adjustable. (As if you really wanted to cultivate with a 100 hp tractor.)

we had a G1000 it was a good old work horse. a GOOD welder can if that that fix was NOT done by a good welder

Tb row crop means adjustable front axle. No not rare at thousands built. Does it run?

"row crop" is a fairly loose term, usually meaning the tractor has a higher build and often either adjustable axles or a narrow front, as they were intended for cultivating row crops such as corn and needed to fit between the rows and over the plants.

Funny story: my grandfather and uncle actually sold this tractor to the neighbor 14 years ago and now I'm wanting to buy it back lol. And I guess I probably should put this message on the moline topic instead....

Kind of a left turn for the topic, but does anyone know if that is the original mounting for the alternator or did it originally have a generator? I learned early on that an alternator can charge turning either direction. The first mechanic shop I worked for right out of high school had an alternator/generator test stand. The drive motor was reverseable to accommodate testing generators. One of the first times the boss showed me how to test an alternator he said watch this; stopped it promptly reversed the motor and said ?see there- an alternator doesn?t care which way it turns, charges the same regardless.?

As bad as I would hate to see it, you could part it out and get your money back. I'd say if it ain't stuck and the tires were good it's worth that.
How close is it to Illinois?

25-or so years ago, my brother owned one. The hydraulic pump (shown on the left side of the tractor) went out and he replaced it. A year later, the same thing happened again. He got tired of the costs and sold it to a salvage man. That was the only thing wrong with the tractor.
That really was a grunt of a tractor and I wish he had still kept it.

The tractor does run. And I’m pretty far from Illinois. Nice try  The rear tires are decent. Just a little dry. The rear left needs a new rim is all.
Does anyone know any specialty websites that sell moline parts?

I would be all over that thing for $1200. To answer the question someone asked about the alternator mounting--yes, that is factory original.

X2 on the original alternator mounting.
$1,200 isn't bad. It's not a Vista, so top dollar fixed up you might get $6 or $7k.
They do have a lot of power, but also a lot to be desired. It depends on how much you're going to use it and what your land is like. Transmission is not synchronized at all, brakes are so-so and the 3-point/draft control is pretty confusing.
They were made for big flat fields and doing tillage work in my opinion.
Just because it runs doesn't mean there aren't issues. Ours sat for 25+ years, fired right up but had a miss. Turned out, two cracked pistons, valves badly worn and a cracked cylinder section. About $3,000 and 6 months hunting parts and the motor was fixed.

Yes an alternator will charge in either direction BUT if you intend on using like that you need a fan that is designed to pump air in the other direction . The alt will burn out if used in a situation where it is taxed to the maximum such as having the aircond on !

They were an ok tractor, almost 7400 makes it a pretty big production run for a Moline, we have two G1350’s and there’s only like 350 something of those built.

Finding Parts is getting more difficult, they were a big tractor in their day and were used like one so don’t be surprised if it been worn out, fixed and worn out again. The cylinder heads like to crack, etc... hard to go wrong for $1200, worst case you part it out to keep the rest going.

X2 especially since it's a family tractor. Better grab it before they changed their mind.
