I need someone who is going to an auction in Ellery ill sat I would like to bid on 2 items but the auctioneer wont take absentee bids ---why would anyone get someone as an auctioneer who wont get top dollar-----beats me --if anyone can help I would appreciate it I am committed to a sale in ind that day

Will they even take phone bids ? I have seen that more lately. One of the ring helpers has someone on the phone as the bidding starts.
I have been at some in the past where the auctioneer announced he did have an absentee bid. I suspect they let people know so if they did not see a bidder running it up on them it would be more legit.

they wont take a bid unless you are there----wp=hy would anyone hire and auctioneer that would cost them money

I asked the local auctioneer that same question, and he said he'd be happy to take absentee bids from me or others that he knew were good for the money, but won't take them from strangers (or more importantly, from people he knows but are not especially trustworthy), so to be fair, he doesn't take them from anybody.

I take it that you are not known to the auctioneer. If he knew you personally most will take the bid. You are required to wright out the bid as to what it is, the amount you want to go to and your complete contact information. If you are well known by the auctioneer just what, how much and your name, not well known but slightly include your address and phone number. Family member is an auctioneer and one other auction company is same way. If not one of these groups of auctioneers I do not go to the sale. And they are required to anounce they have an absentee bid if the bid price is below what they have at the time. So if you leave a bid for say $500 and it starts at $450 they have to anounce they have the absentee bid, If it starts at $510 they do not have to anounce it.

Because if you don't pay for and pick it up, the auctioneer just bought the item for himself. He probably wouldn't want it or he would bid on it for himself. See, there are 2 sides to every street. Just an old Auctioneers thoughts. Keith

I left a 10000 dollar bid on a tractor with a loader at an auction with the auctioneer. He called me that evening and said I got the tractor, but not the loader.I thought he was kidding. I told him I left a bid on the whole outfit, not just the tractor. He said they decided to sell it seperately. I left my bid with the auctioneer and he never said they were selling them seperately. It only had one auction tag.He was very upset.I told him he's the one who screwed up.He said he wasn't taking absentee bids annymore.

I buy an average of a tractor trailer or 2 per week and had several references --it just seemed he was satisfied to get less for the seller ---reminded of me of the auctioneers who use buyers penalties and tell the sellers they will cost nothing which is exactly what the are worth

Several years a certain tractor came up for sale that was 700 miles from me. I called the auctioneer about taking a phone bid. He said that would work. I told him that a family member would have me on the phone at the time.
He announced that there was phone bidder on it too. No problem other than there was quite a trucking bill to get it home.

Consider this scenario Leroy ,. there was a parts auction down in Ky , I could not go ,So i called the auctioneer,.He asked me to place My highest bid on any pallet of parts and if no one overbid me i would get the pallet. lots of stuff were 25-100 dollar sorties . trouble was for example: If i bid 1000 dollars for a engine on a pallet and the highest bidder there only went to a hundred, even though the auctioneer was begging for 125 ,and annouced he had a higher telephone bid and marked it sold ,. then i was on the hook for a thousand , Rather than the 125 ,Before , I chose not to participate , I described that exact scenario to the auctioneer , and He said YES ,Whatever my hi bid was stated at ,That Was what i Would pay regardless , even if a item failed to get a start bid of 5 dollars from the live field , and i was willing to go 50 , 50 ,was what i would pay. i decided not to get involved

To me I wouldn't think any auctioneer would take a bid over the phone without a written letter from the would be buyer. 25 years ago a mans word was his bond. Apparently lot of them has died off because I myself and i can tell you of a whole more people who has lost a sale because the buyer didn't show up or sent any money. Times has changed a lot the last 10 years. Really sad because there still are some good people out there that there word is bond and there getting screwed by these people that screw everyone else. just saying.

Crocked auctioneer, If he does not get a starting bid on the place he should start with your bid low and work up from there. If you place a bid of up to say %500 and it only gets to $100 in $5 increasments you should get it for $105

There was an auction 2 hours away from my location. Some things I wanted and could not make the auction. I called and talked to both the seller and auctioneer. Left two bids and waited. Auctioneer called , said I got the one and not the other. Later the seller called , said I got both items. Drove two hours to pick up the items and paid cash. The auctioneer had never met me and the seller had only once. Worked out for everyone involved. Believe a mans word is as good as it gets.
