Fire Extinguisher Best Value

, Where is the Best Place to get Fire Extinguishers ? ,Can I trade in old ones to be recharged for new ones ,. ?
35 yrs ago there was a guy around here dealing and recharging , but , He died 10 yrs ago ,.. I read with interest
over on "tool talk "the good discussion about Extiguisher Care , And that THEY DO EXPIRE ,. I am glad to be made
aware that I MUST IMPROVE AROUND Here .
in the event if Fire ever broke out here , I would be in a bad FIX,. Although I could probably round up 6 or more
extinguishers ., I Know I am betting the Farm and my LIFE ,That .They are Useless for nuthin more than a
wheelchok or a door prop .. And Worse I only know where 4 are handy , the rest are against the wall somewhere
..Thankfully we are not in a drought situation here , But I MUST Do better , and be ready . Over the Yrs I have
had a few surprise fires...And , Honestly , I have never had a fire get out of control because i was able to
douse with water quickly,. was Blessed to always have , a hose , a Bucket , A stream puddle or pond , or plenty
of loose dirt .. to bring it under control quick .

I like the ones that you fill with water and charge with air. They will shoot 30 feet. I have one one both combines and the tractor mowing stalks.

Not only fill with water and charge with air but if you put in some flame retardant like Phos Chek it can really do a heck of a job. I'm about a 1/4 mile from where the Nuns Fire started in Sonoma County, CA. PG&E, our local utility, uses those type of extinguisher and a retardant. They can spray around the base of a utility pole and it won't burn except under the most extreme of conditions.

Think you would be hard pressed to find rechargeable extinguishers. Been s couple decades since they have been marketed. They needed to be tested periodically, and cost of testing and recharging typically exceed cost of throw-away. Watch for a sale at your nearby big box store.

If you have Kidde brand fire extinguishers check out the recall
info I posted. You might get them replaced for shipping yours back.

Water rechargeable extinguishers are not hard to find:

"Water rechargeable extinguishers are not hard to find:"

No, they are not. I keep one handy all the time in the shop.
Wouldn't be without it. But they are class A extinguishers only
as sold. I also like to keep a class B/C extinguisher at least.

I agree that the 2.5 gal water are by far the best bang for the buck. For many years when on the fore dept. I went direct to all calls and was equipped to make a start on any call out of my truck. I kept a 2.5 gal. loaded stream on my truck, and I either put a fire out or put a good dent in it a lot of times with that 2.5 water. As lardy pointed out though, they are not for flammable liquids.
