Uggggggggggghgh. Got a tractor for sale on Craigslist, and for some reason folks think I want their junk. Does not say trades!! Raggedy pick up ( Mazda) worth less than half of tractor. Front loader off a Long tractor," don't think it works". One good Ford truck but he decided that he was gonna short himself on the trade. Guns, 4 wheelers, never anything good. My bills like cash. Then the worst are the low ball offers. Don't insult me with an offer for less than half , maybe ask for couple hundred off. Heck I will dicker, but at least start at a decent price. Sorry rant over. Anhhh I feel better, and so does my wife cause she didn't have to hear it , again.

I used to get the same crap when I posted on CL but not so much now that I state cash only and no trade.

There are some real 'wheeler dealers' on CL guess you can't blame them for trying. On the offer thing a few years ago a fellow had an AC WD-45 diesel and equipment listed for $2700
I was headed his way so I stopped in to look, turns out it was at his friends house and he lived about 300 miles away.Anyway the blocked was cracked but the equipment looked good but I really wasn't interested. He calls me that night and tries to get me to give him an offer I told him my offer would just make him mad,he said to go ahead.I offered $700 for the whole works
he immediately said SOLD! so I guess you never know.

When I had a 1020 Deere for sale, somebody started talking about trade and a boat. I told him I didn't want a boat. He said no,he knew where there was a boat that he wanted and the guy said the only thing he'd take in trade on that was a tractor and loader. Then he wanted me to come down on the price because he said if he gave me what I wanted,he wouldn't be saving much on the boat. Like I owed him some favor or something. GO BUY THE BOAT AND GET OUT OF MY YARD!

I called on a tractor yesterday that I'm going to look at. The guy said he was taking the ad down since I sounded like I was real interested. He said all he'd been getting anyway was calls from people wanting to trade things for it,just like you said.

I am selling an Allis G, open to cash or trades. Had a guy offer me and john boat and a commercial push mower. Said he was sure I could get $700 for the boat and $1300 for the mower.
I told him that those were not items I was interested and he should sell those items and give me the cash.
Strangely I never heard back.

On the other hand, I have had some good experiences trading. Currently in a long term deal where I am supplied with firewood in exchange for hay. Person on the other end has abundant wood and time but lacks cash. I have hay, need wood but always find myself short on time to get to the woods to harvest enough firewood. This is a win for both of us. I am happy with my end and they are happy with theirs. That is the ideal trade for me.

I have advertised things for sale or trade, and have been happy with the results. Traded an old non running Ford truck for a farmall cub. It is a non runner too, but I would rather work on a tractor than a truck. And it takes up less space.

I get the same thing. Just the way it goes on Craigslist. I only take call or text responses on my ads. If somebody calls, they are usually serious about it. Texts are a crapshoot. Scammers like to respond by text as do the lowball offer guys. I work swing shift, so text is good for me. I just delete them or respond "NO" and that's the end of them.

If it has any value at all, it has value to me, and unless it is just in my way, I'll keep it. If it's in my way, and has very little value, I'll give it away, you come get it.

I was trying to sell my 2N awhile back on CL. A guy north of me copied and pasted my ad to about 6 different cities in our area. I started seeing my tractor with his info. Called him up and he said he was selling it for a friend. I called him out on it and he said he was just trying to help me sell it. BS. He got a not so nice earful before he finally hung up on me.

I've had people that thought cash and check were the same thing. So,now they pay before they load it. Tired of people that negociate a lower price for cash then pull a checkbook out.

Amen brother, I know your pain. Got 8 tractors I want to sell one at a time and only listing my Minneapolis Moline currently and have calls and texts everyday for junk trades or virtually nothing as far as cash offers, then I have the ones that say they want it and tell me they are coming and never show up, if I had enough grandchildren that were old enough I?d give them all away to them....can?t list all 8 at one time or I wouldn?t be able to work

Any chance you have a 961 diesel for sale? Guy at church is looking for one. Maybe selling will get better around here. I would love to buy that MM but I gotta thin the herd first!

"I am happy with my end and they are happy with theirs. That is the ideal trade for me."

You are spot on with that statement Steve.
If a fellow has a need for something, a trade can be a great deal.

I buy and sell quite a bit on CL and I don't mind when folks ask if
I'm "open to trades". Usually I decline though, because I'm not interested
in what they offer. Most understand, some are a bit more pushy.

The low ball offers are generally ignored.
As are the salesmen who state "I know what this is worth!",
because they obviously do not or they wouldn't be asking that much.

There's a guy around here who's asking $4000 for a Farmall Cub
and another who's been trying to sell an Oliver Super 55 with a
front blade for $6900 for the last few years. I wish them well.

With you 100%. On every CL ad, I always ad
"interesting trades considered". You never know
what someone has that they don't want...

It's very simple:

DO NOT RESPOND TO THE PEOPLE OFFERING YOU TRADES IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THEIR TRADE.

Don't get all wound up about it either. It's not a big deal. Maybe you would be interested in something. It never hurts to ask.

I sold a tractor on there this spring and even though the ad said no trades I still received a few offers. I just politely replied "No Thanks" and moved on with my life.

I do laugh though because some guys WAY over price their stuff. I never bother to inquire since any reasonable offer would be an insult to them. I'm in the omaha area for reference. One guy has a Farmall M for $3800 in rough work clothes and no hood. Ad states he's firm on price. You can buy a "restored" M in these parts for $2500 to $3000.

Second favorite one as of late is a guy from Nevada listing on the Omaha craigslist a John Deere B that looks like it hasn't run in 30 years for $4500. Claims it's rare. Did notice this week they did lower the price to $2500. Around here it's worth about $500 to $750, plus I don't have to drive a 1000 miles one way to pick it up.

To each his own I guess :)

I always figure that if a guy way over prices something he doesn't want to sell, but his wife does. This way he can tell her ,I'm trying ain't my fault no one wants it,! Would not work here. My wife is too smart! The ones that tick me off are the guys that call, keep you on phone for 15-20 minutes asking all about the tractor, working out best time to come look ,then say ,wanna trade for a pile of junk!! I tell em cash only. They say oh well. Your loss. Ugggggg. The one guy I would have traded with had a nice 7.3 Ford pickup, 75 texts and 2 phone calls over 2 weeks and he backs out. Was close to even. I would have thrown in a couple bucks to even it up but no go.

I always post at the end of my ad........

No help, no trades, no checks, no shipping! No selling over the phone...You must buy this tractor is person. Ad will be removed within 4 hours of sale. See map for address and location. Call only for appointment to come drive this tractor. Thanks for looking.

It eliminates most of the calls.. still get a tire kicker now and then that just wants to talk about the item... I sell on craigslist all of the time.
