Help with Serial numbers please

I bought an Oliver this weekend. The Serial numbers and the year they said it was certainly do not match. I was told it was a 550 but still not sure. Serial number on plate 30 440-518 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully someone else will answer as I don't know Olivers well. The 518 lines up with an mid-50s Oliver 55. That would also let the 30400 make more sense since the 550 didn't start that low in it's
serial numbers.

The 3 digits after the dash are the transmission code, Your serial is the 30440.

It still didn't make sense for a 550 as they started at a higher number. At least that's the way I read it.

Number would be a 1955 super 55 according to what I read. Does it have a 2 piece rounded grill or a rectangular flat grill?

That's what my big book "o" Oliver says too. The first 550 would be 60501
