Some people never learn (dog related)

Our neighbours and first cousin I might add had yet another dog hit by a truck today and he died. Beautiful friendly dog only a year old,Austrailian Shepard/Border Collie mix. A year ago they buried a beautiful Border Collie that was only a year old and not too long before that they buried 1 than a 2nd Shitzu dog that all were run over. They live close to the road are away working a lot and just let the dogs roam free and expect they won't get hit and whoever hits them if they don't show up at the door almost crying because they hit one of their dogs that are always on the road they're a sob. They still have 2 dogs left, guess where they were today when I passed by??? The poor dogs is who I feel sorry for and no I'm not calling the humane society on my cousin I'll just growl about him on a tractor talk forum lol

I had a girlfriend that would let my dog out. Naturally it would go wait by the road for me. Had to preach to her to tie the dog up or keep it in the house. She usually did and the dog made it. Unfortunately some people don't care much about animals.

A lot of places they won't let you put a dog on a line but you can let them get hit by cars. If you can't provide a fenced in yard that is about the best option. We had a dog in a yard with a 6' fence and we couldn't keep the dog in the yard. The dog would climb the fence like a cat. We didn't have a problem with a road. We had a neighbor that would shoot a dog on site. Our dog was only shot once but didn't die. We finally risked getting in trouble with the county and put the dog on a line.

I have an underground border wire that I bought from Pet Safe. I have a 90 lb Yellow Lab, and she respects that boundary. Once in a while she will go through chasing the neighbors cat, but she knows it will bite coming back. She always does though. It will keep a dog from just strolling through.

I too have had a couple dogs KIA on road. About 10 years ago I installed radio fence along road frontage. The wire has been cut for about 7 years now, but dogs remember it and will absolutely NOT go near the road. Cost a couple hundred dollars, but well worth it.
