'95 Chevy Kodiak, 3116 Cat

I have a '95 Chevy topkick w/ the 3116 cat and 6 speed trans (manual)

This thing is kinda weak in the HP dept., It is a replacement motor (replaced before I got the truck). RPMs top out at 21-2200. We use it as a mobile shop hauling tools and materials. Have some upcoming jobs that are a bit farther away (100 miles +/-) would like to put some pep in its step without detonating it....ideas?

I have a 94 topkick. Tag listed it at 185 hp.

I took it to Cat this winter for a tuneup. It has always sounded like one cylinder hit a little harder than the rest at idle. The 3116 is totally mechanical setup. All the injectors need to be synchronized. I figured one was out of whack. I talked to the tech that was going to work on it and asked him if there was anything we could do in the horsepower dept. He told me there is an adjustment for max fuel that could be tweaked some, but it is still just a little engine so don't expect a world of difference.

I'm not sure how much I gained, but it's noticable. Maybe 15 or 20... I had never seen that truck make black smoke before. Now I get a nice puff when I get on the throttle so I know it's getting all the fuel it can burn and then a bit. It's still no speed demon, but I don't think there's a lot more you can do to those motors without spending some serious cash.

It cost me about $600 to have them go through it.
