Hi all,

First off, this discussion board has been so helpful in restoring my tractor. Lately, I have noticed a large amount of transmition fluid leaking out of the axels on both sides. I recently changed the transmition fluid, and hardly anything came out, so I expect there is a leak becuause there is now fluid in the transmission. I believe it may be the axel seals, but I am not sure if there are inner and outer axel seals or how to change them.
Thanks in advance for the responses.

Thanks,
Sam

I'm going to give it a swing. My guess when nothing came out, the drain was blocked with gunk. Then you added x number of gallons and now it is over full. Is there a dipstick or other check point?

I did mine a few years back. There is an inner and outer. It was the inner ones that where bad on mine. I had quite a grove worn in the axel shaft. Spent some time and elbow grease with emory cloth cleaning up the axel. Made it as smooth as I could. Put 2 thin seals in place of the origonal thick seal. So far so good. Hardest part was getting the dang wheeles off. Used a motor hoist to handle the axels and that part was not too bad.

Patsdeere could be right, did you stick a screwdriver up in the drain hole to make sure it wasn't plugged? Did you do the same thing with the level plug when you filled it? We have a C also and a couple of years ago it was leaking around the brake shaft, so I added some oil and then it quite! I took the brakes all apart and they looked ok, I bought new seals but haven't changed them yet, because it quite leaking, and the level is correct.

Thanks for the replies. When I changed the transmission fluid, I did make sure there was nothing in the drain hole. About a gallon of fluid came out, so I don?t think that is the problem. It sounds to me like it might be the axel seals based off of what Paul said. Is there anything else that could cause this?

Thanks,
Sam
