if you enjoy WW2 history and are up for a challenge this trilogy is simply amazing. it took me three years to finish them. I kept them at our cabin and read them at my leisure. the detail is amazing.

for some reason this sticks out. in preparation for the invasion of North Africa over 500.000 radio batteries were shipped overseas from the US. the logistics of war amazes me.

All the glory harkens back to logistics. I don't remember what commander I heard or read about that said, "My S2 (intel officer) tells me who to kill, my S3 (Plans) tells me how to kill them, but my S4 (logistics) tells me if I can. Looks like a good read.

Thanks.
Interesting you'd bring this up now.
I just ordered the last book you recommended - mosquito fleet/Bern Keating - on Friday. It has to come from interlibrary as there's no local copies.
Should be at my local branch soon. Maybe today.
I used to buy books but gave that up. County library is
3 1/2 blocks from my house. Walk there.
I keep telling myself I'm going to expand my horizons and read more about the European war. Eastern front - Kursk, Stalingrad, Caucasus, etc. But always revert back to Pacific/naval war.
Someday...
Just finished this one yestterday. Simple read. Nothing new. Just a nice collection of stories from guys who were there.

Reminds me of the old quip: "Amateurs study tactics, armchair generals study strategy, but professionals study logistics.

If you would enjoy an interesting read on the logistical efforts in the Pac war follow the link below. It's almost book length but good.
