massey hydralic question

got a massey 135 and lift is misbehaving. i had an aux. remote on it to use a haybine with, but lift got to where it didnt want to come all the way up and leaked down at idle. took valve off and replaced with regular cover{above pump standpipe}and it did the same thing. replaced the pump a few years back so wouldnt think pump had already gotten weak. assume it needs new o-rings in lift piston. where could i plumb in a guage to confirm that its not the pump?

If I recall there should be allen pipe plugs on each side if the lift cover front for gauge use. May be simple as the upper and/or lower standpipe O rings bad..

You can remove the side covers, park it slightly down hill in front and shouldn't loose any oil.

Tell the lift to go up, put some weight on it if possible. Look in with a flashlight, see if oil is coming down from the lift cylinder or upper stand pipe oring.

If swirling below, could be lower stand pipe, or relief valve.

Don't reach in there though! Just look!

top o-ring looked good but i didnt pull stand pipe out of pump because it can be a real booger to get back in sometimes. but hydralic valve worked fine, just the arms were week so i assumed it wouldnt be in pipe. bumped starter with kill switch out and cover off and got plenty of fluid. cover has two ports one on the side a other on top where fluid circulates on through to piston.would that be a place to install guage?

could i take pto handle cover off to inspect while running? input shaft leaking as well, leaks out weephole if i park it down hill.

You can't measure pump pressure unless you block flow & that means intentional flow as in lifting as well as any flow due to leakage.

Gauge port is also the lift cylinder passage port. Install the gauge, move the DRAFT lever to the quadrant top to turn the pump on. Lift arms will go clear up, then the relief valve should blow, then read gauge pressure.

Maybe the 3rd point under the seat can be affecting it. I do believe there is a built in relief tied to it. My 50 is doing the same thing, I wedged the top bracket that attaches to the 3rd point and got it to build pressure, but it is also bleeding off, that would be in the relief or the something else in there. Never had one open to see what they look like.
