My little car cranked over slow this morning but fired right up (luckily) Battery in it was 1 month shy of 5 years old. I went to the place I got it from back then, a local battery shop. They tested it as bad. They actually had one in stock and stuck it in. Cranks fast now ! Told him I'd see him in 5 more years. Was only like 3 dollars more this time. This is a odd ball size battery.
That's all the longer the original battery lasted too. Very seldom do I have ones that go along time in most stuff.
 
Same here. I see folks posting how their batteries last so long, but mine rarely go more than a few months beyond their warranty.
 
That's about normal for a battery, I had a JD Strongbox go 11 years 2 months, but that was very light use and an expensive battery. Some of the new AGM's last a long time.

5 years is about the limit these days.
 
Yesterday I replaced the battery in my 2004 Grand Marquis,was original, bought another Motorcraft just $4.00 more than a NAPA.
 
Hi I live in las vegas and my starting batteris used to last about 3 years. the high heat kills them. of course i buy the cheapest i can from wal mart. i have been adding epsom salts to them and i may get under 4 years now.
 
Some Japanese battery in my Kubota Panasonic maybe - 2002 date code on it still starts no block heater in -30 and has survived a couple of accidental deep discharges. Can?t buy them in North America, I tried to...
 
This one and the replacement are 60 mos. so it died 1 month early. LOL. Pro rating only helps in the first few years as they go from LIST price.
I think years ago I had a 3 year battery die exactly 3 years to the day ! I just laughed and said boy they sure had it figured out.
 
I don'to live in a super hot area (northern Michigan and New York). That said, our batteries have to work pretty hard in cold weather. I recently checked the date on the two batteries in my Ford diesel F250 and they were 8 years old (Walmart brand). Still working fine but I replaced them anyway. I check dates on all batteries. Yuasa battery in my Ford farm tractor is 10 years old. Walmart battery in my Grand Caravan is 7 years old (from Walmart). Battery in my 2009 Ford Escape is original at 8 years old and is made by the same company as Walmart batteries. Going by my own experience, I do not believe new batteries "don't last."
 
I Just Put a new One in My 97 Toyota Tercel this Week,.. The olds one was Only Ten 10 Yrs old, Seriously, As I Installed it Myself!! It still would Turn Over , albeit very Slowly,, The can still last a Long Time LOL Larry in Ga
 
Hope I'm done buying batteries for a while, last winter one for my snow blowin garden tractor, original Delco for my 2013 truck, original for wife's 09 Equinox and two more garden tractors in the spring.
 
I just replaced the Interstate battery in 2000 Ram. It was nine years old, so I just put the third battery in that pickup. Guess what, I live in MN.

I have to ask, why did you replace them anyway? Why not at 5 years? Or for more safety, 4 years?
 

There is actually a battery life "MAP" showing average battery life... its based on extreame heat and cold areas having shorter lives.. .with heat being the worst... my area shows average battery life of 30 months..(s. texas ).

Battery school told us "every new battery installed should be put on a trickle charger, they last longer when you really put a deep charge in to them, Leave it on 24 to 36 hours." That was 30 years ago. I continue to do this today and seldom have a battery last less than 9 years.
