At least this one turned out well

The old guy is glad the kid came around. It can happen to any of us who work alone. I am very careful to block things, but sometimes in a hurry not so. I doubt I would lay too long before the wife wondered why I didn't come home after a few hours. My shop is a block away from our house. If out in a field mowing the wife has no idea where I am. 37chief,
Yeah, I often think about the time I spend alone on my property with my tractors, chain saws, or just plain walking around. I see deadfall trees all the time and figure it's just plain luck that I wasn't standing or walking there when they came down. With all the noise on a windy day, I'd probably never hear one come over from behind me. When I leave my property heading for home and call my wife, she usually says "glad to hear you're still alive". Though, thinking about it.....she doesn't sound all that sincere. And that's usually when I'm out there trying out some new toy I bought.

> The incident began when Schember started his tractor while standing next to it, Hanson said. The tractor was in reverse when it started and began to move.

So many of these accidents happen when somebody tries to start a tractor while standing beside it. Often the neutral switch has been bypassed, although in this case the tractor may not have ever had one. The only time it's safe to hit the starter switch is when you're sitting in the seat of the tractor.

Points up the need to always carry your cell phone with you when you're out and about. My BIL slipped on ice at the barn when temp was in the teens, didn't have phone, luckily my sis went looking for him when he didn't come in for breakfast. If he'd had a phone, he could have avoided an unpleasant spell of laying on the ice.

My brother was scraping a barn when a length of wall fell on him. Laid there for 5 or 6 hours before the owner checked on him. He spent a week in the hospital oozing nasty fluids out of his body for about a week.

Said all those hours he could see his cell phone on the hood of his truck 50 ft away!

School classmate went out to start his truck to warm up. His house sets parallel to the road and his drive loops behind the house to a carport. So you can not see the car port nor the back door from any angle/road. It was in late Jan. He just had light cloths on and house slippers. He slipped on the back steps and hit his head. He knocked himself out and froze to death laying there.
