cuttin beans friday nite about 7:00 8820 on fire under hyd tank, put it out with fire ex, digging bean dust out from under tank seen under the cab was on fire, called 911 they couldnt figure out where I was located, wrong county got hooked in to my county, by the time they got a fire truck there [30min's later]combine was toast.....now dealing with ins co............9610 is still running beans

That's really too bad to lose a good machine. Dad said he lost one of his favorite combines in a fire. Said a fuel line cracked and sprayed the manifold or something and by the time he saw it, it was time to bail out, it was out of control. Said by the time he ran half a mile back home across the field to the house to call the fire department, the combine was almost done burning, and by the time they got there, it had burned 90% of the wheat field too. Did it burn up any of your beans? Like I've said before, I don't trust fire much outside of an enclosure, and if I saw my combine burning, I'd be afraid that the crop would catch fire and get something started like they have in California burning.

I have had to call 911 a few times when I was driving that rural newspaper rout. And it was around my home. I live 1.5 mile from county to south of me, 5 mile from county to east of me and Iwas in all of them on that route. I got so when I had to call I said this is for (county name). A few times it went direct, other times they just said transfuring you and correct county would come on. That way did not have to try explaining where to somebody that did not know area. One time do not know who I goy but did not know a railroad was in area as it was something on the tracks I called about. That is when I said county name. Due to location of towers I could get 911 in 5 different countys calling from home. So saying this is for (county) saves a lot of agrivation.

So sad to hear that. Good to hear that you had insurance.
My brother caught a wheat field on fire. He saved the combine and the trucks but had to sell them to pay the farmer for the crop.

Butch, that was a red one mine was green, best combine I ever had thats why I keeped it so long, got a 9610 also

Ooops, I just glanced at the paper. Sorry to hear about your 8820, I had three near misses with combine fires myself.

The neighbor that farms my property, his combine caught fire while cutting wheat. Had enough time to drive it off the property onto the road where it burnt to the ground. He's also the volunteer fire chief and his guys could not get there in time.
