New IH Manure Spreader / Tires?

Picked up a little IH (I think) manure spreader today in really good overall condition! Wood is bad, and tires are rotted off, but fairly straight none the less.

First question is tires, would it have come on 7.50 x 20 tractor style tractor tires, turned backwards right? It is on 7.50 truck tires, but I can't imagine that is stock? Very aggressive though / non directional though.

Next, what model is it? I don't have a picture, so, that makes it kind of hard, but it is a medium sized unit in my guess? I would say Farmall C or H size? Probably about a 8 or 10 foot bed.

Very cool. I've always wanted one, but being an IH is just that much better! I feel a full restore coming on.... ;)

It sounds like the I-H 200 spreader I have. Most pictures I've seen they have ag tires mounted in the forward position like mine does. I've had mine for probably close to twenty years and haul about 30-40 loads a year. Its been a good little spreader for my use.

Years ago it wasn't uncommon to be able to buy things like spreaders with just rims (no tires) then add used truck tires. So, it is possible that what you have was "original" in a sense. But, if purchased with tires a "traction implement" tire would have been used which look like a tractor tire but typically have shallower lugs. For applications where the tire is powering the implement (like on a ground-drive spreader) they should be installed in the opposite direction than the drive tires on a tractor. 7.50-20 traction implement tires are still available from places like M.E. Miller Tire if one is willing to shell out the cash.

I agree, we have an IH 530 spreader that was bought brand new and had to go get used 20" truck tires to put on it.

Unless it's ground drive truck tires are the most common. Even ground drive spreaders have truck tires a lot of times, they can slide on wet ground tho.

Come on now Bryce. We can't have a post from you without a picture ! Make sure you get the model to pose too. LOL.

Tires were always an option, could be ordered with new traction tread at extra cost or used tires bought a lot cheaper and worked just as well. Not just on spreaders but everything except tractors, combines corn pickers or hay balers. As those required better or special size tires. But would not be a 200 as they are an all steel bed so would be newer than that. Horse drawn spreaders were also all steel.

It sounds like my two IH 200 spreaders that we have had for decades. They both have wood floors and came with ag tread tires running the opposite direction of the tractor.

We don't use them anymore, and one of them has a broken ratchet, but they are in the barn. I keep thinking I will restore one someday for parade use.

I think mine is a 200 and a friend gave me truck tires for it.

That is newer than a 200. I am not familuar with the numbers tho. The 200 was built as not only a tractor spreader but a 4 wheel horse drawn spreader and avaible with either steel wheels or rubber tires.

Bryce-----You've brought up an interesting subject for me------I've had a hobby of

refurbishing old spreaders---four of which were IHC Model 200 spreaders. I wish

you'd email me and maybe we can discuss these. Send a picture of what you've got

to help out on the discussion. Martin

Martin, I'm looking for an apron ratchet gear for a 200. If you've got one please let me know.

Bret------I'm sorry, but I don't have one. But I do have the dogs that turn
that gear. I have disassembled beaters---I have the left half of the wide
spread "beater"---and other miscellaneous stuff.

Thanks anyway! The 200 is an outstanding spreader as far as shredding bedding. I'll get mine working right soon.
