Air in well pump system

I recently pulled the submersible pump to fix broken wires. After I put it back in I am getting a lot of air accumulating in water under pressure. When I pulled it I found the check valve leaking at pressure tank.I am going to change it today. There are 2 more check valves down the well but I will have to pull pump again to change those.

I cannot figure out how air can get in the system. It has a pumpsaver on it that kills the pump if if pumps out. It has never got air in it before. It has not pumped dry since this air problem started.

I would appreciate any ideas.

Tom, a few possibilities, check valves being one. As check valves allow a section of delivery pipe to drain, it's replaced with air. Also corroded iron galv. Pipe or pvc pipe with cracked couplers will act the same. The air seeps in . If it's just a small puff of air when you turn water on, it may self correct. If you get a good blast of pressurized air and water spray, you will have to pull the pump and find the culprit.

Thanks tequila, I got a new check valve today. I will try changing it first. I may end up pulling the pump again.

The check valve at the tank is holding, the one at the pump is leaking, and there is a slight leak in between. Some systems are designed that way with a special air bleed off valve in the tank to vent the hydrogen gas off. We had that system at our last house in the St Cloud MN area, worked well for 27 years.
