TO20 Fuel Tank

I have removed and cleaned my fuel tank but when I move it around there seems to be something clunky in the end toward the lower fuel outlet. Did this model have a sending unit or float device? I cant think of what else might be in the tank.

There was never a sending unit.

I think there was a filter screen on the end of the fuel valve that stood up inside the tank, could be one that broke off.

Could be anything dropped in over the years.

It won't shake out?

I'm cleaning my TO 30 tank and it too has some kind of bracket/"shelf" that slides back and forth. I can see it if i lift the tank just right while looking in. Fuel seems
to flow alright. It makes more of a clunk than a screen would.

The bracket/shelf thing is a baffle that runs the length of the tank, to prevent fuel from sloshing around. It is spot-welded in place, and has probably broken loose. (Mine had done so.)
When the loose baffle moves around, it can then break the standpipe and filter screen off of the sediment bowl, where they extend into the tank. (Mine had done that, too.)
I don't think the baffle is that critical, but I've heard of people cutting open the fuel tank to either remove the baffle, or re-attach it, and then re-welding the tank.
I just replaced the entire tank.
Do a search in the Ferguson archives on this site for lots of information on the tank and baffle.

that makes sense. I'm fighting a lot of rust in the tank and will definately get a new one as soon as I'm sure this thing will run.
