PTO generator-Billy Shaffer

I have this Marathon- Lima 12.5 kw generator that I plan to place on a trailer for use with a step-up belt and pulley. This will be for tractor PTO use.

It's made to operate at 1800 rpm, but my question is about if it needs to be flashed after setting for ten years. Looks like an electronic regulator. Any ideas about putting this back to work?

I've researched, but nothing shows about flashing an old gen.

I would NOT flash it. If you get it all hooked up and nothing is comming out, then maybe the voltage regulator is fryed. The next thing to try while it is still running on you tractor, take an old fasion corded drill with brushes. Plug it in, squeeze the trigger, and turn the chuck by hand. This will put a very small charge into the generator that will usually make it start charging. These are the two big buggaboo things that I can think of.

Most of the time flashing is not required. But before you spend money and time. Check out the winding's of the stator to the right of the regulator. They look burned and crispy. Also regulator looks burned in the left upper corner. Of course it could just be dirt and my eyes. The regulator could just have the normal. Hot spot looks.I will look up the number for the generator

Thank you for the quick reply, I'm just north of you a hundred or so miles ( Terrell ) This gen set was working when pulled off of an enclosure that also contained a 671 Detroit Diesel and a whole lot of hydraulics. You could get stinking dirty just by turning around up in that enclosure. I used to complain to the operators that they needed to shut the lights off ( main purpose of this generator ) before bringing the engine down to idle. Nope- they let it run with 8 kw worth of halogen bulbs just glowing dimly.

If you would like. I have to be up that way next week. I could stop by and check it for you. Cost you a diet coke. Just worried because those windings do look burnt. Email me an address.
