10/14 1890 Dwight Eisenhower was born

.......in Denison, TX. Out on US 75 N. of town is a huge bust of him. I well remember when I was a kid and he was running for office against Adali Stevenson.....I like Ike was my slogan and I had a campain pin to prove it.

Thank You for bringing this to our attention. I was born in 1953, so don't remember much about President Eisenhower.

I joined the Navy while Ike was President. I went on to serve under 11 successive presidents working for either US Navy and US Army.

We"ve been to about 8 of the 13(?) presidential museums. It"s interesting to see the take that each president had on his presidency. With Bush senior, his emphasis was on family, Johnson extolling anything that went right, while minimizing Viet Nam. The bulk of the Eisenhower museum was about his efforts in WWII, and very little about his time in the White House. In the Bill C. museum, like many others, there is a recreation of the Oval Office. I did ride my scooter around the back side of the desk to see if anyone was underneath.

I sat on the porch and listened to the nnalert convention when Minnesota changed it's vote and gave Ike the nomination. That was back in the days when it was not known for sure until the convention who would get the most votes. It was between Taft and Ike.

Also, remember the picture in the paper of Adali Stevenson with the bottom of his shoe showing that he had a hole in the sole.

I was a senior in high school and in general assembly listened to Ike's inauguration speech. No TV's in school then. Two years later he was at the top of my chain of command list in Army.

Also, remember the school bus driver with his I like Ike buttons and I think a Ike & Dick.
